Heres my 2 watt 808nm laser before dark outside hitting the trees about 150 feet away. this was made with a modified cvs camera. you can see the entire beam all the way to the trees, I think this is very pretty, and you cant see it with your eyes. (except for a dull red glow.)

very impressive beam for IR - seems very well collimated, and looks cool while doing it

Oooooooooo - you did one of the CVS camera hacks ? If that is a re-usable item and films IR (I cannot see the video) I would be interested in you modding one for me - can you PM me if you would be interested in swaping something, or maybe give me a price for it ? Thanks !

Is it just me, or is anyone else getting a 404 error when trying to view video attachments?

How did you make that laser? That vid is great, the beam looks sweet.

but wow, how did you get the beam so tight??? IR lasers are cool in the fact that you can shine them at houses, and no one will notice unless they are taking a pic at the same time ;D ;D

Unless someone is looking out a window in your direction, and you'll burn an eye without them ever seeing it coming... i'm quite sure they'd notice that.

Poiting a 2 watt IR laser somewhere you could hit someone is a very bad idea, much more so that using a visible laser. If you hit someone in the face with a 2 watt green, they can at least close their eyes or look the other way. Still very dangerous, but give some divergence and distance much less likely to injure someone.

Re: 2 watt 808nm beam hitting the trees with IR ca

Thanks for the good compliments!   :) I played with many lens's to find one that would work good on this laser, it is a 2w to-3 diode ftom ebay using a 3 amp regulator to drive it at 2.4 amps...

I used a lens from an old telescope to collimate this laser, too bad I dont have one that can collimate my 17 watt! :-/
The cvs cam is modified with a filter from an old tv remote in front of the lens, and the ir blocking filter is removed from the lens. thats all I did too it other than the normal hacking. I have this one for IR, and another one for visible light.

I was very carefull, and have only done this one time, and I know it will be a dangerous situation, so tried to keep it in the trees.
