Okay so I took some heat with my last couple of laser vids because I did not use a driver circuit...well here is a new one that uses the LM317 circuit and burns like h***!

What's taking James Bond so long to get one?

Also some people have asked where I got the Walther. It's a little pricey but now I have a CO2 pistol and a laser burner

Thats cool! I am really glad you used a driver this time. :)

Make sure you set it to the right current to give you a good life time.

100ma's will you make your diode last "forever" and at >150 it will almost never make it
past 24 hour total use (with a good heatsink).

I would say anything between the two will work fine but some people have pushed them (some by accident) to 300ma's.

What current are you running it at?

I don't plan on using it for much more than an ocassional novelty item but I leveled it off right at 145ma.

Hey Kip :)
Where did you get that laser sight?
You know, the one that attaches to the walther?
I'm gonna try this mod, but i can't seem to find the laser sight anywhere...

BTW, you should have shown how to set the current using a DMM...

Most of those noobs on youtube might blow their diode

There was already a thread about this. Funny to see you here on forum now. Also, about this "blue" laser... it isn't blue.

You might want to put at least SOME warnings about the safety of these devices and their legality... They're very unsafe and they're very illegal. Most people watching your videos won't know this.

I for one don't want the ignorant masses blinding themselves and having bigger legal crackdowns on lasers... You do nothing for the community in this regard, you bring nothing but trouble.

Props for finally acknowledging you need a driver in order to not waste your money and kill your diode in a matter of minutes though, a lot of people have posted on this forum cursing your name for giving such bad advice in the past.

Dont be so brutal, god, hes just doing what he like to do, i know the dangers and such, but really dont be hateful. KipKay, if you want to help spread the word one safety then sometime during the laser videos mention http://www.laserpointersafety.com/ and mabye even these forums. They could use the guidance of some of the more senior members (no offense).

First of all, it probably would be a good idea to mention safety and laser goggles.

In response to Pseudolobster:

What makes Kipkay's laser videos any worse than the videos we admire, such as Styropyro's "How to build a burning laser" videos? I think that they are a valuable resource, no matter who is taking the videos (as long as they are doing a good job and not encouraging illegal behavior.)

High-powered lasers may be dangerous if used incorrectly, but they are NOT illegal (except in Australia). It is illegal to buy them, but not to build and operate them. There are laws against using them in malicious ways, such as shining them at aircraft and people, but lasers themselves are legal to build and use.

Seems to me that a laser is the least dangerous part of a firearm.  I don't need a laser on my PPK.

I wasn't aware of that, thanks. Do you have references to applicable laws to back this up? I've been harassed by police before for shining my laser into the empty night sky. They were under the impression any point in the sky is a potential flight path for aircraft and that any laws applicable to pointing lasers at aircraft pertain to any portion of the open sky unless it's cleared in advance with the FAA or whomever the appropriate authority is... They seemed to know what they were talking about, and at least in theory they had a point, but I never looked into it and always thought they may have been making that up on the spot. They went on to say that anything over a certain power requires some sort of licenses... I'm guessing since they were called in advance they looked up some law database or something telling them what laws they could use to tell me why I wasn't allowed to be doing what I was doing.

At any rate, I apologize if my remarks come off as an ad-hominem attack on kipkay personally, but I'm just saying, making videos showing how easy and fun it is to make powerful lasers without mentioning in any way that they're dangerous is just irresponsible. After answering dozens of people asking over and over again "I followed the kipkay lazer phazer video and it blinked on for a second now why doesn't it work anymore?" I may be speaking with a barbed tongue, but don't get me wrong, I don't mean anything personally... I'm just saying that if you're going to pose as a professional you should at least refrain from giving stupid or dangerous advice.

Kip, your videos are good. They're well cut and the information is presented in an easy to digest format. I think you're a very talented videographer and have good presentation skills... Particularly since your videos are so good and so well received, you should hold some responsibility for informing people about the risks involved.

Oh man , that gun isn't expensive at all.....if only I could import it :(

Anyway, I like kipkay's videos, they're not step by step instructions, but before I saw the famous maglite mod I didn't even know what kind of diode is in there, how to power it, and what it was capable of.And that's basicly the reason why I've been a member of LPF for almost a year now. :D (9th december)

KipKay has probably single-handedly brought more people into the world of lasers that anyone else in the world. And for that, you have to respect the man.
