That is really cool!
I would be very interested in seeing how that is done, what kind of interface they are using to link the Kinect to the scanner.
thanks for sharing!

That's awesome! :D

I have seen software to do this; I actually have DrLava's LaserCam software but just haven't tried it out yet.

But to hook it up to something like this is pretty neat. Nice find.

Cool thanks for the heads up! I didn't realize he had that software.
When you do get it up and running I would love to see your progress with this program!

Sure. I have been having computer issues on my laser show laptop (System Registry corruption) and I need to rebuild the whole system before I get LSX and everything running.

Here's the link for LaserCam: http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_diode/LaserCam.php

It's pretty cool. Dr Lava had a demo at SELEM this past August. :)

Hi guys, I'm a newbie here and hope this is the best place to post a question about LaserCam software and a few applications for it. I have tried to contact Dr Lava directly but haven't had any luck getting a valid email address so I thought I'd ask everyone here.

I work with a new media collective in New Zealand. We aren't laser people but I have played around with some laser projectors recently and would like to be able to incorporate them into future productions. Since we are mostly familiar with video it seems I'm looking for some software to give me the ability to do real time laser projection mapping using video as the data source for the laser output and I think LaserCam software looks like it should work well.

Do you know of many people using laser from a video background, I can't find much online?

I'd hope to be able to use it in a project we did like this where we used laser to project onto a gauze covered stage. (scrub through to the later half of the video to see the laser)
And in this project where we would ad a laser to project onto certain parts of the structure using video data sampled from a kinect.

Does anyone have any documentation of the Kinect 3d tracing capture? I could see this is something I am particularly interested in.

Also could you please recommend which of the applications the software supports is best suited for this kind of work.

Many thanks.
Harry.

Hi Harry, sounds like a cool application!

As you've found out, getting contact with drlava has been one of the huge downsides to his business practices, however you'll have more of a chance over at Photonlexicon.com. He does post there somewhat regularly and should be able to answer any questions about LaserCam. I am assuming the kinect is just set up as a regular webcam - seeing is that's all it really is (times 2).
