what is most efficient use of red in a scanner

in an rgb set up is what is the best way to use a red:

have it hit the last dichro and go to galvo, or
have it go straight to galvo passing through the 2 dichros?

Seeing as red is falling behind even further these days,
the path of least resistance would be ideal.

I'd test the optics and look for a config with minimal loss...
Though depending on your setup, you may not have a choice.

I always put green through the most optics as giving up some
green usually tends to be the better route.

If possible, red should be last, but I have only found it possible
to run the blue last, and red in the middle.

i found a dichr that reflects red and passes green and blue.. on same page i found a dichro that passes green and reflects blue

i think these 2 will give the best for red?

It's possible to do it many ways, just depends on what you have available.

flecom's projector has red as last(green, then blue, then red)


Mine is strange. My green goes in a 'U' shape off 2 high reflect 532nm mirrors, my 445 passes through the first green mirror(~90% passes), and my red passes through the last dichro(~90-95% of the red passes, ~75% of the blue passes). I lose a lot of blue, but since my 445 is by far the most powerful of the 3, I can just boost the power for balance.

I did that becuase even though I have more red than blue or green its the least visible color, therefore I wanted to minimize loss of red...

although it seems like there is never enough red :(

I wish the Casio had 24x 1W red's in it too lol :crackup:

before when I only had 473 I had the red and blue reversed though... blue was closest to the scanners, followed by red then green last...

In my experience there never is enough red, but that's because of human eyesight limitations. If you ask anyone involved in conventional stage lighting they'll tell you that red is always the most difficult color because it is easily washed out by other colors. Once you've got so much red that it's very visible, it often taints other colors that are created by blending red so that they are red saturated, which isn't always a good thing.. Shorter wavelength red helps a little, but it's still never enough.. at least it seems so to me.

This is a common problem anywhere, when is matter of mix colored lights ..... one of my friends produce megascreens (those led screens for shows and that are used on the borders of soccer fields for advertising), and all his "pixel" modules are made with 4 leds, one green, one blue and TWO red, for have a decent balance, also if the red leds are rated for same (if not higher) mcd emission of the others .....
