I have been entertaining an idea, which I think is exceptional, but given my limited knowledge of software/lasers in general I may be getting a bit overzealous. I am thinking of basically building a scanner show for iPad.
#1:I need to build the scanner:whistle:
#2:mod an ipod cable so the scanner will read the info. from the ipad
#3:make the app itself. I am imagining it would look just like the ipod photo album, and you just touch the pictures(which would be your laser images/graphics) to send to the scanner. Other features include:
-a paint feature that can enable you to create graphics in real time, either freehand pictures or neat designs using virtual filters(kaleidescope, point dots, circles, squares, etc)
-ability to drag and drop audio files from ipad music library and place graphics on specific parts of the song

If this is a stupid idea then let me know. If it is genius and you steal my idea and make millions, your welcome.

"Niche" doesn't even begin to describe your market.

Ha! I think that my statement about making millions may have been misleading. I'm not thinking of making it for sale or anything, I just think it would be really cool to make.

It would be really cool. I'm not sure the iPad can physically handle it though.

This thread is relevant to your interests: Sound card DAC tutorial

Hopefully someone who knows more about scanners will pipe up.

Thanks! this looks like a very detailed and interesting tutorial. I'm looking forward to delving into it.

not a smart idea to invest time in a format that will be gone in the future. you will not be able to charge much for this.
and second: why not just use your laptop?
a laptop isn't that large.
The touchscreen is nice but your better off making a remote for already existing laser software. it's already extremely difficult to program hardware with apples developpers restrictions.. there's a reason why there is hardly any external hardware *same with jailbroken systems* apple doesn't want you to be able to program too much.

That is a good point. I did say above that it wouldn't be for sale, but even if I just wanted it for myself, an ipad probably has a lifespan of 1-2 years and would not be worth the effort. Being said, the same program for a normal computer would be very easily synthesized compared to an ipad

i don't think you can make a program for laser for the iphone, the iphone doesn't allow this kind of low level programming.. even if they would allow it..it will be hard as hell and you will need to create your own dac and program it.. really that's only the beginning...
just don't even think someone will manage this. not even in the lifespan of 2 years.

if you want to develop laser programs: buy yourself a dac and program for it.
Secondly the audio dac won't work with only one audio jack ;)

I believe someone on photon Lexicon has a laser-show app for i-"devices"

yeah with a pc in between perhaps. well actually not even drawing :p
i'm on pl often there is only a custom controll for touchosc which isn't really a lasershow app but just a midi controller.
i did write my own controller for pangolin autoplay
called pangolin iremote but it's on a hold.

no there is not really a lasershow software for ipad at all.
also not for mac :p

Make one for mac first its going to be annoying for me to boot camp all the time.
When jailbroked you can do low level programming but i am not sure it would be worth the effort

fyi that is NOT programmed. that's just a custom template for Touchosc which is just made by dragging a bit in a program that runs on both windows or mac.
it's just a midi controller

Also don't expect a lasershow program anytime for mac.
might be annoying for you to bootcamp all the time, but at least it means not only mac users would be able to use this.
The major 3D software used for say pangolins lc-max runs on windows only either so don't expect them to do it.

just get off your ass and bootcamp :p so that both mac and windows users can use lasershows software without one of the 2 being left out.
