Thoughts on this DAC?

Just asked the seller a few questions and got some answers!

The DAC supports analogue, which is great. It works up to 60 kpps (which you can't get much higher than anyway) and will work fine in an RGB setup. I think imma get one of these ;D

Can anyone recommend some good software with lots of features that will work with this DAC?

I'm already over budget, an extra $100 USD (including shipping) is something I can't really afford.

Plus it doesn't look all that different, except that it says the fastest scan rate is 12 kpps, and the one I'm looking at his 60kpps. And it comes with software.

Actually, I'm still tossing up with the other software too, that comes with the ILDA scanner I'm buying. It isn't as useful, but it's a TTL scanner anyway so it doesn't really matter. And you need 1 DAC per laser anyway... so...

Gah! So complicated! I think I'm going to solve the mystery of the existence of god, cure cancer and discover the origins of the universe before I tackle this much tougher question of what DAC to buy :-/

You 'bet' there is. That doesn't fill me with a whole lot of confidence :( I mean without trying them you can't really tell.

Is the quality of lasers shows dependent on the DAC or the software? I mean, once the DAC can output 10kpps and do TTL, isn't it then up to the software to produce the lasershow?

I mean I'm very keen on doing all my own animations, not the ones inbuilt in the software. Since part of my professional job is animation as a Flash Developer, I'd really love to get in to such a unique medium :)

i hear what your saying martijn but if you only have 15 or 20k scanners, a 30k dac will be fine.

the quality of the putout depends on the scanners, dac and software.

a good dac with crap software is pointless as you will get poor results. again a crap dac with good software wil produce poor results.

with moncha you get a good dac with good software and it will produce a good clean result. and like martijn said you can get it to work with mamba

Okay.

Hey andy, what do you think of this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120295698040

This is my other option. Because I'm already buying a scanner off the guy for modding, you can get a bundled DAC and software for half price and free shipping, so actually 117 GBP is the price for me there. Do you think this combo will work fine for producing animations?

Out of this option and the DAC I originally posted in this thread (with free software as well) which would be better?

Thanks!

probably not, i wouldnt bother with it either.

i "think" its an ishow/itop dac.

it states it works with pangolin, i can tell you 100% it will not work with pangolin software.

so does it actually work with mamba either?

Okay... so, uh, nothings good then...

What do you recommend then? Apart from that moncha, anything a little cheaper? What about a modified sound card DAC? I think drlava sells one of those...

Yeah, I've seen that, but he only sells kits. I certainly do not trust my electronics skills with such a complex project.

And what's wrong with the DAC I originally posted in this thread? I mean it seems alright, and with some good software it should be okay (based on my limited knowledge).

And the other one is nice because it comes with software. So you said they're bad, but why? Plus it comes from the same seller as the scanner, so it'll all integrate nicely together. Remember, since I'm fairly new to laser shows, my standards wouldn't be as high as yours :)
