Re: TEXANS and any others who like lasershows

$60 + $20/guest for 3 days + food + "camping" space? That's cheap! I think I paid about $40 (by buying early) to go to a regional burn for a night and that was real fun. Even so, they never have lasers shows like that around here. They have lights, music, and some cool shit, but never any lasers beyond some shitty $80 Chinese "projector" they got on eBay.

I wish they had gatherings like that around here. The closest thing to a "laser show" I've seen was at Burning Man, but they can't have extensive laser-light-works because it's more public and people might act stupid around them. None of the lasers there were beyond the simple monochromatic lasers we all own. I'd probably just attend TEXLEM (if it were close by) for the shows and the graphics; the deals at the BST area would be a bonus.

Re: TEXANS and any others who like lasershows

Thanks buddies for the kind words and input.

LEMs are not about PL or LPF and def not PL Vs LPF.
They are about enjoying great lasershows learning how they do them and DIY way-cool PJs.

Several great seminars will be held. The Venue URBAN 15 could not be much better and the people there have offered it to us for very little.

SW Air has low fares if booked in advance. The airport is very close and we will do our best to provide rides to and from. We are asking all who plan to drive to bring along any extra airbeds and sleeping bags as there are no beds in the dorms anymore. But that is no biggie. Not smart to wait . You can just show up and pay the $60 at the door but will not get the cool shirt . But you do need to be put on the list ASAP>

send me a PM.

Hey Hak....

How many of the members here have signed up to go so far...

When are you going to run a LEM in Montreal... You know
I would be there... He!! even in Toronto or Ottawa I could
easily make it. I wish I didn't need to cross an International
border to get to Texas.

Anyone within 6-8 hours driving should definitely go...IMO
Think of it as a new adventure....

Re: TEXANS and any others who like lasershows

If you are within a day's drive of Texas, definately GO!!
LEMs are awesome!

Len got me to go to my first LEM (say that 3 times fast :D) last summer at SELEM 2011

I drove all the way from Pennsylvania and I will do it again.
Heck, Len drove to NC from Texas. Beamman was from AZ.
Arythna came from Colorado. Daguin came from California.
MasterPJ came from the Netherlands!!

I think I can guarantee that those guys would do it again.
I definately will be.

Do yourself a favor and go to TEXLEM.
Otherwise you will be whining "aww, that looked like it was soo cool!" "I wish I would have gone.... :cryyy: "

Re: TEXANS and any others who like lasershows

It'd be nice if there was one near here. I want to see how these shows and the equipment actually get PJed and what kind of control panels and manual controls are used to make it more than just hitting "play." I really don't have much feel for how big shows are run.

Re: TEXANS and any others who like lasershows

^^ Thats one of the coolest parts of a LEM. if you go to a concert where they also have laseshows you usually cannot view whats going on from anywhere but your seat.
At a LEM you meet the operators, get answers to all your questions readily and get to see thier gear up close.
Networking and info sharing at its best.
Good deals on PJ parts in the BS&T room.

Thanks for your comments my friends. Those that cannot make TEXLEM will be missed. We will have a toast in your honor.
I just googled TEXLEM... cool to see us at the top of the list. Good place to start for more info with quick links.
The list is somewhat short ATM but it will grow in the next week or so. We have firm commitments from several bringing thier rigs to display. Its time to sign up and send us your $$ and shirt size(s).

***************~39 days til TEXLEM-- deadline to pay is ~first week in Jan.*****

Re: TEXANS and any others who like lasershows

I want to go...

The Portland LEM was a smash and more eye candy than I
have seen in a long time, now since they do things bigger
in Texas I suspect this is going to be one heck of a blow out :D

Jeff
My offer to pick you up at the airport for SELEM is extended for TEXLEM. The venue is less than 15 min from the SA airport.

When LEMs are good they tend to grow each year. We are already talking about TEXLEM 2013.

There should be a seminar about how to host a LEM by the 'LEMmaster' Buffo.
At the very least Adam will be there to talk to about having one in your area.
He is NOT sure 100% that he can get away but WANTS to attend. He is so busy every year at SELEM that he hardly has time to really enjoy himself so TEXLEM has offered him 'Guest' Statis.

hak sez " Any LEM with two or more attending is a good LEM"

Re: TEXANS and any others who like lasershows

Well, let's not promise that just yet, Len... After all, I'm still not sure I can make it! I need to see what the maintenance schedule at the plant looks like after the first of the new year.

However, assuming I am able to come (and I am working very hard to make this happen), I will be happy to discuss "how to organize a LEM". I'll also be willing to answer any other questions people have. Heck, I won't have any projectors with me, and I'm not organizing anything, so basically I'll have 3 days to just goof off. (I don't think I've even had that kind of freedom at a LEM before!)

Still crossing my fingers that I can attend... I'll stay in touch. And for anyone who is contemplating the trip to Texas, I can say right now that it will be worth the trip. I know that Tim Walsh has some very special things planned! And given what he showed us at SELEM this year, TEXLEM is an event you certainly don't want to miss.

Another bump.
Also here's a sneak peak of the show i'm working on:
!note! in every scene likely stuff will be adjusted and modified later on, more effects, more detail and so on. This is just a rough outline and preview of the show thats going to be featured at the start of next month in texas!
New laser transition effect is kept out intentionally.
