in light of all this spirograph talk i went out and got

4 petitiometers
3 high RPM motors
1 vibration motor
1 4 AA battery host and im goin to start playing with them tonight

would someone link me a diagram on how to hook up the petitiometers to the motors

A vibration motor??

WTH is that lol

What type of pot 's do you have?

The little blue kind, or the big ones?

well if you bought a vibration motor it is most likely just a motor with an offset weight on it.

what are you going to use it for?

i just looked at it lol :D
the vibration was dumb i meant to get one that twitched back and forth. i forget what they are called im returning the vibrater and geting one of those tomorrow. i dont know where im goin to add that in yet.  it will be the last or the first mirror though. i thought it might add some cool scanner effects.

i got an idea to black out a reg non labby laser too.
Im just goin to get another motor and put something on it the same size as the mirrors offset from the laser with holes in. ill be able to turn it on when i want to add a studder kinda FX to the laser... might look good... ;D  might be sucky lol :'( but itl only cost 3 bucs max to add and it will be sweet if it works

and i found how im goin to hook up all this stuff i just had to look around for a while

im goin to have to get one of those reverse polarity things too

total $ spent:   32

still no laser yet (waiting on Zom-B's kit for this... ive got a shitty ebayer on the way to play with till we get those kits)

(another neat idea i thought of was bouncing it off the same mirror twice...i dont know if it will work but im goin to play around for a long time before gluing in my motors)

Those "Petiotiometers" will have to be selected for the current draw of the motors and the wattage disipation. Use Ohm's law to determine the specs needed. How big are your lasers?
I see two similar posts on this forum and the first one doesn't seem to involve lasers.

the laser goin in this will be >100mw blueray

i finished putting all the circut together tonight. i tried to cut a couple mirrors out of CDs but they chip sooo easily when trying to get them perfectly round.

how can i get the motors to slow all the way to a stop??
can i put a resistor inbetween the pot and the motor on the dark green wire?

looks like you figured out the wiring quite well!

what are you going to use for the revering of the motor?

If you have got the pot turned right up (max resistance) and the motor hasn't stopped, you could connect 2 of your pots in series as you seem to have a spare.
You can then find a fixed resistor value for the point at which the motor stops ;)

so i use a second pot to get the motor to stop then get a resistor of the same value of resisting to replace the second pot?

You need to do a bit more as you may not get full speed. So check that by turning the first pot down to zero resistance,(motor will be running) then short out the second pot to see if the motor speed changes.

If it does go faster the easiest way forward would be to buy a pot which is the resistance of the 2 pots together. i.e. if they are 2 X 100ohm pots buy a 200ohm pot........

i finally made my laser spirograph.. used the motors outta the dvd burners i took apart n their pretty good... u can get a pack of round 1 inch mirrors at hobby lobby for $2 n u get 20 of em... it only cost me about $15 in all for my spirograph cuz of all the stuff i had around... ill get some pictures of it some time

i used hot glue to make a spot for my 'dilda' to fit onto... my DX 50mw fits in it too... need to figure out a way so they both can go at once
