this is looking to be an EPIC LEM:D

an extra day added to the front and a public laser show right after SELEM ends on Sunday.
ANY one living close enough to attend even if its a one day visit would be wise to make the party-- I am sure either none or at worst very few would say the effort was not worth the rewards-

Only forum members must pay to attend so guests are free to join us after they too sign a waiver--( forum members cannot be guests):(

You , of course, would get a lot more for your costs if you could attend the entire event but that is your call--afaik there is no single day rate--

IF I had only one day to be there it would be Sat. lots of shows some great seminars -company demos etc and sometime after 4:30 the names will randomally be drawn for the many super door prizes- some, in the past, have been worth $500. Your odds of winning something are quite good. This happens in the main auditorium- you MUST be present to win- no exceptions AFAIK

But the real rewards have nothing to do w/ doorprizes.. I asssure you most have such a good time I know they will want to attend another LEM or even organize their own- the beauty is, as the host, you get to sleep in your own bed and no expensive travel-- but be prepared to do a lot of work and having help is a must--
Come to SELEM to see how the best LEM host ever , Buffo, does it--

The many LEM vids at UTUBE- do not do justice to what you see in person-
plus there is a lot more than just the shows we get to see.
But to get an idea search these 'club selem laser' 'selem laser'' ' TEXLEM'' 'UKLEM'
'NWLEM' are just a sample of the LEMs that happen worldwide.

IF you do show up-- find the Conover Auditorium-- and drive around to find the back loading dock- park and enter there and THEN ask anyone where you can get ID badges and sign the waivers- You will also need to fing Buffo (Adam) and pay your fee before you can do anything else-- should you find youeself unable to leave, rooms at the Hoilday Inn Express Conover has discounted two bed regular rooms for 80$ per night-
a big suite with full kitchen- two queen beds(you must request two beds) and a couch are ~$100 per night- we sleep 4 or 5 in the suites- making the cost go way down
and TRUST ME you wont really be spending much time at the HIE - at least in your room- there are members in the lounge and conference rooms each night for 'after hours' gatherings--
there is an area set asdie just for BS&T- so bring CASH as there are lots of great deals made there... GOT Qs??
put them here or PM Zach- DZ or me--

They are super nice to us and are very flexible-- I imagine all rollaway beds are already reserved- so bring something to sleep on(air bed) the front deak will provide linens and pillows.

IF you are the type who is shy around people you have not yet met- try to leave that at home- you do NOT have enough time to gradually get to know us- we dont bite-we are very pleased that you came and you will be quickly accepted by the 'gang'-- so jump in with both feet- no need to own tons of $$$ gear - just a fondness for lasers.

IF you need more convincing know this: some make almost every SELEM they can- they travel from great distances ( my group drives 17 hours from Tx) many from Fl- Virgina, Pa., Atalnta, NYC, some fly in from Ca. Washington State - Oregon and even for Europe

and more-- it this event was 'lame' WHY would these guys come back so often-- they know what you may not- LEMs are awesome--

also - as we have so little time-- the set-up has to be done fast-- we never have too much help-

the shy first-timers who dont feel the need to help need to reconsider that-

And- because of the very limited amount of time , the set up is not done as safely as it would be for a public show-

SO take great care where you go- The balcony in the auditorum is where the beams go= and would be strickly 'off limits' if this were a public show- its a 'enter at your own risk' area at SELEM - you need to protect both your eyes and your cameras- I suggest you ONLY use your 'old' camera up there-- and block the beams with a hat brim or your hand as you move about- i sit a while like this to gauge if i have picked a safer place to sit than the other seats- No seat will be 100% safe- but some are safer than others- bring your eye ware - use when you feel the need- DO NOT think that because most there are NOT waering eye ware that it is safe or that they are fools- in time the PROS develop a 6th sense of how to protect thier eyes- this takes a lot of time to develope--

ps IF you bring handhelds to SELEM you MUST use good judgment- NO sky pointing at the venues or hotels- no lasers used outside during SELEM - NONE-

use during a show is just rude-- it insults the creator of the show - you would not bring a trumpet to a concert--

and.. you MUST wear your name badge at the venues- no exceptions-

hope to see many new face at SELEM:wave::na:

This sounds like it's shaping up to be the best SELEM yet so DON"T MISS IT if you can possibly go, beg borrow or steel some money
and hitch a ride and bring your sleeping bag so you can crash on the loading dock if you can't afford a room but in no case should you MISS THIS ONE !

I would be there if I didn't already have plans to go make some 24" aerial shells in IOWA

Some one take lots of pictures please :D

If you have any cool wavelengths for sale (blues, cyans, yellows) let me know. I am interested in a 488 :)

I am looking at Junktronic's 35mW 488 JDSU.

I am also VERY interested in DPSS crystals and mirrors. I am going balls deep into DPSS, and I am trying to get my hands on anything I can.

I've been there. It's not to bad if you don't mind digging for stuff that was "planted." I tried digging for emeralds. The ground was hard and you could tell not many people go there just for that. I'd be willing to bet that 95% of the business they get is for the buckets. Diamond Hill mine is a lot more fun if you like digging up stuff that has never been found before. I've found some nice stuff there.

Yea I know the stuff is planted. Ill look up diamond hill mine.

My all time favorite is Morefield mine in Amelia Va he pulls the rubble from the mine fresh from the blasts and spreads it in a field for us to have first pickings at the gems Ive even been underground in the mine on a tour. (not something the public gets to do :) )
