So I'm new to laser scanner, but I already have read some documentation, and I'm wondering how to build your own open loop galvos for a simple laser scanner, and how you get to plug them into your computer. I've already used some recycled PHR parts to create a sound reactive scanner, but the result wasn't very good. Is there any tutorials out there?

Also, what does "30K" mean in " 30K scanner"?

30K means the scanner is capable of scanning 30,000 points per second. When it comes to making your own galvos, I wouldn't know where to begin to describe how it's done. Personally, I think that buying a set of ScanPro 20s is your best bet is far as an entry-level scanning setup. They're relatively cheap and will save you a lot of frustration trying to figure out how to build your own galvos.

Once you have the galvos, you'll need a DAC (the SP20s come with a cheap one) to interface the scanners with your PC. Most professional scanners also include an interface card and software for your PC to allow flawless control of the laser from your PC. Pangolin makes the very best in laser-related software and interface hardware.

Seems you don't understand anything... :(
I just want a pair of open loop galvos...
I have a Mac, and by what I see, no software exist to control this stuff!
I only want to make those sound responsive.
And also, this is out of budget for me at the moment...

^Sorry for trying to help, then..  Sounds like you're just SOL. Why would you even come here and just expect people spoon feed you? Looks like you got yourself into a situation you weren't ready for. Why would you start a project if you have absolutely no idea what you're doing? And then you come here for help and get pissed because someone (who was only trying to help you) doesn't answer your vague questions just the way you want? Piss off.

Look, I didn't really know what to expect when I came here, and I didn't know anything about the price of laser scanners. I was vague at the begining, but now I know more what I want. Sorry for making you angry, but somebody here said :

That's why I wasn't affraid to ask. Now, if you don't want to help me, then don't ; and if no one wants to help me, then I'll go away...

It's not that we don't want to help you. It's that when you say

that it doesn't seem like you really want help.

Galvos are not cheap, and that's the way it is. If you want you could get a set of 10K scanners, but even then, they won't be too cheap.

We gave you the links you needed, well all the important ones... that was us helping you.

The time, effort and cost of making your own Galvos is not worth the effort.
You can use Stepper motors(i have tried this, without success) or there are a few the Harddrive scanner on the net, google!

This is an excellent place to come for help because there are people here who can answer your questions. Like all resources, LPF is meant to be used wisely and in conjunction with other resources and your own desire to learn and communicate. In other words, we help those who help themselves. Members here are not going to help you just because you expect it of them, and they definitely won't help you if you insult them.. Just keep that in mind in the future.

I built an open loop scanner out of some stepper motors and a microscontroller. I'll sell it to you for $75. If interested send me a PM and we can chat about it more.
