Needing help on a laser projector

Hi Everyone, new here. I'm hoping someone can help.

I've had this mini red laser projector for around seven years now (well, maybe a bit longer)! and it's just been sat in the attic collecting dust so I decided to get it out and use it on a project I'm building. :)

As you can see I've took out the PCB from the lasers' shell and I'd like to simply replace the red laser for a green one, but knowing nothing about lasers I am not sure how strong I need the green one to be? Seen all kinds on eBay which go from 5mw, 30mw, 50mw etc.

It currently all works on either 4x AAA batteries or a 9v adaptor. There is no sticker on the current (red laser) so I'm not sure what voltage it is.

So any recommendations, help or advice would be much appreciated! :)

Thanks,

Shane.

A green laser module is going to draw a lot more current than an equally powered red module. It won't be as simple as plugging a new module in. What current is the red operating at? Is it pulsed by the circuitry? How much do you know about electronics?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply!

In response to your questions I don't have a clue. I don't know much about electronics to be honest.

I did try and connect the wires to a 100mw green laser (from a pen) recently and it worked fine. But for some reason I could not solder the wires into laser, the solder just would not stick? That's when I thought if I get another laser, which would be similar to it, it would work.

What would you suggest that I do?

There is no way of helping if you don't know basic electronics and soldering. Do some research, learn the basics, then poke around with lasers :)
