I have ran these diodes at 501mA flawlessly.
My bad ur right. Right now im running at 1/2 power to focus my lenses just right and to align the mirrors. After that ill crank to 2A for 500mA each, once I get tec ill probably push it to 600mA each.

Theres a few options being developed right now on PL, as far as stabilizing tec drivers. TEC doesnt need to be huge.

I may align the mirrors tomorrow. I want to make sure I know what Im doing before I glue these dielectric mirrors.

Please remember that while a 10 hour lifespan might be acceptable in a pointer, you will not be happy when you have to change those diodes out again in a month.

Do you have some data to support that? As long as no damage is being done through heat I think it should be fine for well over 10 hours/1 month.

How many pointers are tec cooled and have 10lbs of aluminum to conduct the heat away?

You can't for example cool them to -30C and put 4A through them. It's not about heat, it's about optical power at the facets.

I want to ask 1 question about the LPC-826 cuz i read here that they can have 600mA

So for a long life should i keep it on 500mA maybe 550 ? for a long life ?

I think 400mA or 450mA is the the current for a long lifetime. The graphs are here: LPC-826 graphs

ok got a little work done here. Very easy to set up. But the mounts are VERY stiff and i keep bending alen wrenches. Craftsman is just pure junk, bondhus seems to be the ticket, their alen wrenches are very nice. I Managed to twist one but still didnt round off like the craftsmans. Now i could get the two stacks closer together but then i really start cutting the beam. As it is I think its a similar beam to the 445. When i start cutting the beams i start to get a line going through my dot which is the corner of the mirror's reflection. I'm sure it wont really make a difference when it gets to the galvos but thats the reason i have the two stack so far apart. I NEED a LPM so I know how much power I start loosing when i start cutting the beams. I need to get fresh alen keys before i try and get the beam tighter. Here are some pics with a little smoke. I have no idea what power all i know is I have 1.5A going through it, gets warm but not terribly hot. Iv had it on for maybe 10 mins though at this power. I aligned it at the thresh hold its much easier to see the dots. Here are some pics.

About 32 feet away.

So, because I decided to upgrade my scanners my beamheights are all screwed up. I need to have some baseplates made up probably on monday to go under lasers to get beamheights all right. This is the layout im thinking of going with. Anyone have any suggestions. I dont really know what im doing at the moment just winging it every step of the way.

there are 3 options.
1 make base plates for all the lasers.
2 dismount your galvos and send the mount to get some taken off.
3 take your base plate and have a spot machined for it.
besides that the layout looks solid.
Im a fan of keeping things compact but it looks good.
i got so crazy i would up using a laptop power supply so i didn't have to have any big psus inside my scanner case making heat, but im crazy.

I think its much easier to just have baseplates made for the lasers. I just need spacer plates, I will drill and tap my own holes. I am not worried about countersinking anything on the bottom of the plate since I am going to use small standoffs to get some air flow. Looks like 2U Server cases are only about 3.5" tall. Im going to need a 3U.
