I share your excitement vk2fro, I just placed an order with laser-wave for a 400mW green and a 1W 445 to chuck in my projector :D As such, the poor thing is in 1000 pieces on my floor .. not really, just the lasers out :(

Should bring it up to a nice 1.5W total, although with only 150mW of 640 it'll be lacking a bit on the red side. Of course, gotta wait for damn shipping! At least EMS is reasonably fast, as long as they get it shipped off before Chinese New Year :)

The fun part will be cramming it all in the 2U case!

@TTerbo:
spacelas 25k scanning system you said?
i cant find it on their website.
PT-20 PT-30 and PT-40...

also that video you made looks like a bad camera...
i see the laser image behind the actual image...its like a old TV xD

borgqueen, yeah thats my posiedon projector before the red died.

532, 660 and 405 lasers inside, 100mw, 300mw, 300mw I think.

Things, how much did those lasers set you back? (the green in particular)
yeah you definatly need more red in there. I'm starting my build (and this is why its gonna take forever to progress) with a $1500 600mw Kvant 640. That will give me plenty of red. I'll then match my blue and green to that laser.

Once I have mine built us aussies really should plan a mini lem to see each others handywork.

Wow so your second projector also gave up on the laser module red?:(
And i was actually talking about the video of TTerbo.

Your projector history doesnt give me much hope for the future of my projector:(

Nah thats been worked out borg - its an earthing issue - another projector touched mine (we moved them around while operating) and it caused some sort of earth loop.

I already have a replacement red laser on the way so should be a 5 minute fix. Just poorly made chinese crap.

My big projector will have a kvant red laser which are near impossible to kill, but cost a small fortune.

vk2fro, the green was around $600. The blue was actually a "gift" to me from laser-wave for helping them out with something recently, so they were going to send me a module for helping out, so while they were already shipping, I decided I needed a green upgrade and put that in the order too.

I may try a single or dual LOC setup at some point, just for a bit more red. I actually ordered a bare 0-2A PSU (The little box with the fan on it) too, so I'll see how that works out for a DIY build. My 150mW 640nm red I have at the moment is only a single diode, so I can PBS something else in.

An AUSLEM would be great. There are a lot of people into lasers in Aus, problem is the country is spread out so far people rarely get to meet up.

yeah thats the sad part about this country - spread out. I'm sure if I lived in the states it's just be a 2-3 hour bus ride to visit my parents for christmas. In my current circumstances, its a 2000km plane ride, with two different aircrafts! (767 and a dash 8).

Mabye we should organise a bi yearly thing where we host an auslem in one state (e.g. QLD) then another (e.g. S.A), so everyone gets a go at not having to fly, and those cheap flights can get the out of state people there. We could host it on a popular holiday period (e.g. leadup to Melbourne Cup day, lead up to Australia day etc). If its cup day we could even have the famous race on a telly so we can lase and see if we won on the nags at the same time.

We'd need to give people plenty of notice so they can book and sort accomodation, and set it up for a time where most will be on holidays.

A member in the hosting state can provide room to store peoples projectors so when not playing lasers (and exploring the hosting state for example), that way projectors dont get left in hotel rooms. Laserists will need to be happy to have a tag placed on their gear so it can be identified when they come to collect it for the day (or days) it will be used. Non laserists will need to be informed that they must not approach an open or running projector without laser glasses on.

I'd be happy to host the SydLem storage area here, just as soon as David sends the removalist for all his stuff (he moved to melbourne, and instead of throwing it out, I told him to store his stuff here). So there is plenty of room on the workbench and next to the couch to put projectors and associated gear safely. I also know where I can get my hands on a beefy sound system for short term use, without cost. We'd just need a hall, and a way of advising out of staters how to get to it.

Anyway I should create a seperate thread for this, even though the three of us (Things, TTerbo and myself) are aussies, as it has relevance, but only just.

Sorry for threadjacking your build thread TTerbo.

Ahhh, sorry to hear that TTerbo.
Mine died too, but it was my fault. I pushed it to its limits. (600mA)

Looks like these diodes inside are rated to about 500mW maximum and they don't like high currents. I tried to replace IR diode but I couldn't achieve enough green light. 1500mA to diode resulted 50mW of green. It's really ineffective. But I think that problem is in diode. Diode doesn't pulse on 808nm exactly.
But if you have some better quality Cmount 808nm diodes (with FAC) please try to replace it and let us know how it works.

how did it die tterbo - did it just give up or did you fiddle with the pot? I know how you feel, I had a 50mw chinese laser that didnt even go right out of the box. Paypal dispute got my money back.

I assume the laser has a warranty - send it back and get it replaced.
