A few months ago I was searching around the net and read about a program people were working on to try and use a regular projector (such as home theater/business) to emulate a laser projector.
Well, it popped back in my head today so I went looking for it and it is now a working program that is VERY basic as far as what it can actually do. It is called MusicBeam and is completely free.

MusicBeam - Your open source light show!

You can run it on your computer to see just how basic we are talking about here if you don't have a projector. Think I'm going to mess with it using my netbook and an older "spare" projector I have and see what happens.
Has anyone tried it yet? Going to search around and see if there's anything else like it out there.
I do own a real laser projector and this will be NOTHING like it but hey, it's a something to mess with. I can't recommend getting a real laser projector enough though. Whole different "cool factor" that can be extremely impressive especially with a slight amount of fog and great music.

If there is interest I can modify my program Vrilda to allow for simple 2D RGB-on-black output to a monitor to basically be able to play existing ILDA files on your projector just like this.
