Ok, tried the most basic thing ever. First was a simple spyorgraph, pretty cool effect but it takes about 10 mins to align the mirrors and even then if you cant control the speeds you are stuck with one effect. Second was even more basic, blutacked a mirror to a piece of paper and held it in front of the vent on a subwoofer, I have to say I like the effect from that more than the spyrograph.

Third was basically early stages of a x/y scanner. It just hit me, two electric toothbrushes... there are two stepper motors in there. So I took stuck the mirrors on there anre aligned them together and I got a sort of box with waves in between it. No videos or pics unfortunately but I may do soon.

I am thinking about getting that kit that is being posted around here.

Electric toothbrushes have steppers in them? Well that's news to me!

Got a link? It would be really cool, though.

HAHA! Nice one!

I am looking around to see if the same kit can be bought for cheaper.

Yep, the head goes left to right at high speed. So just take the brush off and stick the mirror to the top, or even take the motor out and it works.

Now its dark I tried the simplest one again, with a slow motor I could see the actual beam from this one, but I dont have any smoke or any sprays at the moment so I just went to a faster motor.

why did you ask twice?? oh and if you want better spyro effects, use 2 motors and set them up like the first one, so the circle from the first one hits the second spinning mirror, you can get better patterns!

Assuming your phone records in 3gpp and you want to edit it in lets say windows movie maker. You'll need to convert the 3gpp file to an AVI or Mpeg. This freeware program does just that >> http://www.freewarefiles.com/program_6_81_19533.html
I've used it plenty of times and never had any issues with it..
