Mechanical laser pointer

Hi everyone

I am looking for some help. I have been looking for an affordable preprogrammed laser with x y movements to draw simple lines; say 50x horizontal lines from top to bottom, and then around 50 vertical lines from left to right. All of this would take a maximum of 20 seconds or less. Does anybody have any ideas or experiences with inexpensive kit? I would be eternally grateful.

straight lines would be simple but programming it can be a pain.
Stepper motors would work for this simple task but controlling them will cost about as much as a cheap set of galvos.

Thanks for your reply. What are Galvos? And do you think I could do this for around $200 or £100?

You can probably buy a cheaper set for that much, but there's a lot more setup involved than just plugging them in. Try looking at the stickies in this forum.
