NAH!! ^^ just been real busy trying to keep the bills paid--

here is some pics of a new way for mounting tubes or bulbs

I like brass- easy to 'cut threads' just with a bolt that barely fits-
Brass is not as soft as Aluminum so less chance of stripping my crude threads.
These 1/3rpm AC motors have a brass 'gear' and it just happens to be the right size for a torture tube to 'compression fit' if you use one or two pieces of shrink tube to slightly enlarge the size and lessen the chances of breaking the neck of the tube (vial)

********************

Pic1
shows the new 26mW Diode green from AixiZ (exclusive)@515nm-
its plugnplay -the module 'holder' it comes with needs to be replaced with anything bigger/better
BUT just as it comes from AixiZ I ran one for 15 min and felt no warmth --
IMHO for =a 'small 'venue' LUMIA this is plenty of green-- they are 85$- and now come )if you ask) in a slightly better 'mount' its is a tighter fit and has 'some' fins-

The lit candelabra bulb pic was made IIRC with a dpss green

the lumia pic- is a 445nm and the 515nmAixiZ-- next two show where I got the first mounts-just plastic and from a vintage Xmas light- don't think they make these anymore- I found a few at a thrift shop

The next two show a modified bulb(base was too big) JBWelded into standard Lamp part that is threaded onto the standard lamp shaft-easier to show you a pic of this(next post)- almost every common lamp has one of these- the set screw is already there-lamps get tossed all the time- I saw a bunch of messed up lamps in a dumpster- all I took were a few lightbulbs as I did not know about them ATM.

the last one shows you one of my old mount large bulbs and a brass mounted thrift store 'bottle-' maybe perfume IDK.

...unlikely I will find another--

for that one I am using the new brass I found-

I think its some kind of tubing union/joiner each end makes a mount - I drilled the hole- 'tapped' threads with a screw.--

the plastic(compression fit) version is fine- especially if its mounted vertically- no 'gravity'--

on its side tho its surely safer to have it more firmly attached to the motor- likewise using the magnet approach,..

while they are easy to swap out glass..you have no guarantee it will stay in place -- No price on the brass as I also found it at the thrift shop-you don't need the center piece- just the ends-- these come in several sizes so take your motor with you to the store or measure-- -

if you can find kinda thick walled Al tubing you can simple cut short (or if needed long) pieces and drill a hole or two for set screws to attach to these AC motors--

I am building one RG LUMIA now with two 'stacked' bulbs mounted of their sides - that is an old RGY chijector- (TY LaserFace) I am still miles behind PB and the Swami of LUMIA -

IIRC they are using 1/2 rpm hankscraft dc motors 'pricey' but a nice speed and can be battery-ran and are reversable if you can find any benefit in doing that.

moar pix

see where the top part of the lamp attaches to the 'shaft- usually hidden inside the lamp--
those are the complete unions only the smaller one was a great fit but the next size will work for me two but I will have a second set screw to keep the glass centered-which however i have done off-centered in one set of lumia glass so the beam does not always hit the center of the glass bulb, bottle or tube as when you get close to the edge the image changes a lot as seen in the next set of PICS

the three LUMIA pics here are stock pics from the LK PD2 it has two LUMIA modes- only in one does the image morph and it does that way too fast for my tastes-- while it was a nice try I give the LUMIA built into the LK PD2-a 5--(out of ten)slighttly better than no lumia mode at all.
IMO if you have a LKPD2(or other chi-jector) and you want excellent LUMIA do a scan-thru using the PJ as your controllable light source. (best controlled with a good soft like QS, as you can choose from 7 colors - change the size and make the image move-- BUT do not use any magnets to attach lumia to any projector with scanners---(they mess with your galvo motors..(big time)

@zorn- who asks me if i will build him a LIMIA or are they FS??

No time ATM for any builds other than mine-

At TEXLEM Tim Walsh (Laserwizardy) demoed a store-bought LUMIA PJ it cost IIRC $600
RGB- and nicely made- not sure if the glass can be easily swapped out or if it can 'change' itself- here are some pics of it--
If I had $600 I would keep $100 and spend the rest on a LK PD2- and add your own lumia PLUS get SO much more for your $500( I know where two 'like-new' can be gotten for ~$500- the owner ONLY wants to sell as he is now going with ALL analog modulation- PM if you want one of these--also i am 'selling; for 50$ each 13 'chances' to get a LK PD2 (also 'like new') for the cost of shipping (plus your 50$ 'ticket') I have 8 or 9 left until we draw names- DO NOT reply to this here-PM me ONLY--

pics 3-4 & 5 are from brother Brad B showing the stepper controlled specail efx wheels- the next one is also a LK PD2- showing the entire insides the lumia shot next to Norty's pic was made by hitting the egde of the glassw/ a LK PD2--

the last pic if from brother norty33 at one of his shows(UK) as you can see he has a LOT going on here- looks like HD black lights or lasers on the wall - - and some swell beamage-- iirc this was at a rave--

first pic-show the simple RGB set up in the 600$ LUMIA 'Store-bought' PJ mentioned in the above post.

**************************************

REWARD--B O L O

find where we can buy these-GET AND one & i send you free motor-

this had four rubber'feet' on it which tells me its a most likely drink coaster--
its 4X4 inches- Gadget is cutting it into for rounds for me with his diamond glass cutter.
The 'bubbles' /'dimples' are on one side only --they other side is fairly flat-- IF you find glass that is textured on BOTH side you may have problems cutting it (big time)

these pics are off my ceiling- a 700mW 445 makes the blue and the red is a PL-C 635 nm making 350mW on my Ken-o-lite (which reads low iirc) note how orangish it is when NOT with the 445--
BTW this PL-C 635nm IS For Sale-- its a boxey C-Mount-red diode-- just so you know- no returns because of that.

you can see the shift (to our eyes) of the red color in the presence of that much 445 Blue-- a similar 'shift' happens when you run a 532 dpss in the presence of argon 488nm-
ever wish you had a yellow pointer that only cost 4$???

fire up the 'greenie' pointer with the argon and its VERY yellow to our eyes(or mine at least) I do not think it 'looks' that yellow to a camera- will try next time I take my argons for their bi-monthly 'walk'

the last shot came from SELEM 2012-its made with Dr Evil's Magic LUMIA box- completely portable and controllable TOO!!

IIRC it is about 10X10 in size works flat or pointing up.(and in between)here its in the eating area of the HIExpress with the lights on- its 'awesomer' in the dark of course- this build is one any would be proud to have completed - I never did get a peek under the hood- But will draw James into this thread so we all can quiz him and force the secrets out as well as mo & new pics!!

Here are some low power battery operated lumia and star projector mechs that I have made.
Take a look and see what you think.

PEACE

great stuff you guys

One member wanted to use the AixiZ 515nm 20mW in his new Lumia-

no actual long time tests have been made on this plug n play module (12x30)
but the bare Nichia diode tested well so..

My idea of a murder fund for one of these AixiZ P&P 515 modules was shot down- so ask Bloomy about duty rest cycle on the AixiZ green module-
afaik it can be run for at least a hour as long as you add a good finned heat sink.

I ran one 15 min. in the stock 'module holder' (too small to call a heat sink IMO)
.. anyway I added to the newer & better module holder with closer to 12mm-inne dia, & removed the anodizing and added two CPU heatsinks w/ thremal apste-- one on top on one the bottom- crude and due to the placement of the HS fins - it was hard to keep these centered- made two sending the best on and we will keep track of how long these work- the price was right-- free-- Z-bolt has nice heat sinks

here are the pics

........ hmm wont open- need to re boot maybe- BB<L with pics

BUMP post

..'discovered' that 1/3rd rpm motor is slow enough EXCEPT if you go big with the glass , since the farther you get from the center the more glass that moves ( too fast)
so my 3.5 inch glass globes need something much slower like 5 RPH (hour not minute)

BUT I am thrilled with the outcome- and will like it more with slower motors.

BTW last check at SurplusShed they were out of 1/3 rpm motors--

& the 6 RPH are 4X more$..

pics soon

Hello lumia lovers,
I just started building my own lumia projector and have a few open questions. I actually opened a new thread (http://laserpointerforums.com/f51/rgb-lumia-safety-94465.html) because I forgot this great one existed. I am using a cheap RGB module (532nm(30mW), 638nm(100mW), 445nm(100mW)) from china... and I am wondering what kind of protective glasses you guys use when you work with your rgb modules?
And I am wondering if it is possibe to use TTL modulation to change the colour composition of the projection. Should be no problem if one doesn't use a scanner right? :)
I will try to record any progress I make and post some pics or videos here. Thanks fot this wonderful thread it is really helpful! :thanks:

Be careful without goggles on lumia. I'm sure hakzaw will chime in (pun) but lumias can go almost instantly from a speckled and scattered beam, to a focused spot depending on the glass it is going through. So watch out where it is pointed if you start using higher powers.
