I came across these pre wired ILDA connectors (labled db25, which I assume is the correct name for them) but there were male and female ones.

Which ones connect to which? Would I need a male or female to connect to my scanner?

Male should plug into your scanner. Female is ILDA in on the projector usually

Ok, well as far as I know the scanner kit I bought don't have pre wired up connectors on there.

So I would wire the female one to the galvos and the male to the DAC?

its proper name is a 25pin parallel cable

it does not matter which end plugs where, what matters is that everything is connected right.

in 1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2 and so on.

Ah right ok.

I was just thinking that the last thing I want is to wire everything up, buy a DAC, go to conenct it up and its the wrong way around and needs to be changed again.

dacs normally have a male connector on them.

but say you did wire it the other way round, just go maplin and buy a 1 metre converstion cable for £5, its not the end of the world.

so you plug the female end of the ilda cable into the male end on the dac.

ill double check when i get home, ive got 4 dacs i can check on.

Ok cool.

Just to double check, there are four pins on each of the galvos for example, I just need to work out which one is which and put a wire from them to the correct pin on the ILDA connector?

what kind of scanners? if you have a picture or instructions that would be best. but only 2 from the x and 2 from the y are hooked to the ilda connector.

heres a picture since it can get confusing...
cbscon_PC_ParallelPort.jpg

the one on the top should be used as the connector in your scanner and the one on the bottom will be what standard dacs will use.

there is a good reason why you should follow this standard.

unless of course you wanna carry adapters with you.

if you ever want to try out someones software and dac or you ever buy a prebuilt or a used scanner they should be set up this way and it is very easy to just plug it in since it is all standard. same reason we have a standard 25 pin "ilda" connector standard.

its for compatibility.

galvo!!! dont touch the galvo!!

you plug the galvo into the scanner amp then wire the scanner amp to the dac.

there should be no more than 3

on the 10k you have X+ Y+ and ground

Ok, I know this thread is from over a week ago,  but I thought I would help clear a few things up. The DAC that you use, should use a 25pin female connector, the projector should have a 25pin male connector. So the cable that runs between your DAC and projector, should be female on one end and male on the other.

And the proper name for the connectors are either DB-25M, DB-25F or D-Sub 25M, D-Sub 25F.

For what its worth, I make a small ILDA breakout board that fits inside a projector to make wiring easier. I'm out of stock at the moment, however, details can be found here: http://www.dzelaser.com/db25_breakout_board.htm
I should have these in stock again in January.

I have that bookmarked.

All the connections I will need for a single colour are along the bottom of that board correct? I should only need x, y and +g and -g?

Yes, all the connections you should need are on the breakout board. Depending on the DAC you use, for a single color projector, you would want to use the intensity pin, which is pin 3 on a DB-25, or labeled +i and -i on my breakout board.

i wouldnt.

these are 10k and dont have a massive scan angle. just connect as per the instructions and you cant go wrong.

i know bill really really knows what he talking about. he has tunned and modded my dt40's but these arent dt40's they are just 10k
