i was googling laser projectors when i found a rather interesting project by someone to make a laser projector, i'd really love to build one of these (and being a geek, use it as a linux terminal display) and i thought i should share the link here:
what does everyone else think about it? :)

Yeah - I bookmarked that one a while back - excellent design, but some of the parts were difficult to acquire (for me, anyways !) So it got pushed to the back burner. I would LOVE to see someone market this as a KIT to be sold off to folks (ahem....HINT, hint !) I am fairly certain it would generate enough interest ! :cool:

this would be possible if the design is either not copyrighted, or has a permissive license, not to be a downer but whoever did that would really need to check :p

Agreed ! I actually sent off a few emails to the author, and received no reply from them - even invited them by the forum to check it out, and possibly help folks out some if they wanted....alas - no response :(

aw :( i guess that makes it pointless asking for the source of the software so it can be modified/ported to linux or mac then...if i build one of these i am gonna need to write my own software and said software will be open sourced.

Fokop - if you are interested in the paralax controller - think about buying the kit form ! If you got 4 others to go in with oyu on it, you could end up getting it fairly inexpensive !

see personally, i really want something relatively easily programmable (at least after writing a driver type interface to it), and that can be left on as a display for hours, so i think i'd have to be using a lab style laser module etc... i'd like it to be able to show a "screenful" of text on a wall, etc, giving me up to date info about what my computer was doing :) i mean yes, vector graphics only, and monochrome, but *so* much cooler than just an extra lcd monitor! (and i'm using three of those already...)

(edit) oh and of course.....lasermame!!! :)

No - I do not know anyone that has made one, other than Boomdog - and I basically know OF him, rather than actually know him if you know what I mean ? I would LIKE to make one - but when there are some decently priced RGY projectors out there, it really makes it difficult to price out all the components...although I DO have fun making stuff from scratch.....I haven't heard of a kit from BLuesky.....can you post a link ?

http://www.blueskymarketing.co.uk/mega_green/index.htm go to the LASER SHOW KIT tab on the left side. For a 30k scanner thats pretty cheap. My laser from them is still on its way, but by the sounds of things its pretty solid, so hopefully all there products are the same quality. The site is a bit dodgy, i think il send them a mail about it.

I have been working on getting the parts for this whole projector for a while as well... I have most of them already... on my last DigiKey order I forgot the OpAmps and now I have to make a new order for that and always end up being too lazy.

The other solution is to get the actual FULL kit gathered and the circuit already printed. It is available online... You just have to solder the pieces together...

The only problem I don't like about it is that the one on eBay is really not that great and TOOOO expensive for what it is...

GL and keep us posted;
