Default Help with my RGB Scanner...

I have a RGB scanner that was manufactured by a company in China (like most of them). I recently replaced all the lasers with much higher power lasers and it now has an acceptable output. 900mw 445nm blue / 250mw 532nm green / 650mw 650nm Red

My problem with this is with the "light show" itself. I want to see the "Barrel Roll effect" of color when this is modulated with an audio input. What I get is the internal program of pre-determined patterns being modulated by the audio. Not a very interesting light show in my opinion.

This has DMX and ILDA input/outputs which I have never played with.

Is there any easy way to get that "barrel roll" effect I am looking for without going to external DMX or ILDA control?

Thanks for any help..

The manual will tell you for sure but it might be possible if this laser has a set of dip switches in the back. On some DMX equipment, when DMX is detected (cable attached) the dip switch selects the unit's channel. When no DMX is detected it lets you change it's stand alone settings. This will only let you change things like speed, duration and color of the preprogrammed patterns and effects. With a DMX controller you can change these setting remotely as well as possibly program some very, very simple beam shows. To add effects and patterns not preprogrammed on the unit your best bet would be software and a DAC. A DIY soundcard DAC can be made for cheap and software can be found for free.

Thanks for starting this thread- lots of questions have been posted in the past on upgrading diodes in these and I am sure many would like to see how exactly you did this(me for one).

Not sure what you mean by barrelroll, it may be called liquid sky wave effect or something like that. Could you be meaning the simple tunnel efx?

I am about to build a RGB from scratch and have gotten software -*********- which afaik will allow me to make most all effects- another is black mamba and the best is pangolin(very$$ but state of the art) also there is a bunch of freeware that may help you out. If you are a member at PL many there can give you the best advice. Another great idea is for you to attend a LEM and bring your projector to get hands on help-

meanwhile share you knowledge on the upgrade of china projectors with lots of photos- TY

hope this has been of help.

The manufacturer of the scanner is SUNFROM Lighting Co. Their website is at Website: Sunfrom Pro Lighting Equipment Co.,Limited . The scanner model # RGB300. The specs were RGB 300: U (405nm Blue: 100mw, 532nm Green: 100mw,650nm Red:100mw). The scanner has both ILDA and DMX in/out along with dip switch setting on the rear of the projector. The galvo scans at 10K.

I have a RGY similar- the galvos are actually steppers- the dip switches were, for me hard to figure out. my Yellow is off so what you see is R and G very close together but not yellow. almost impossible to get the two togther and having them stay that way. A lot of cheap projectors get returned soley because he new owner never figured out the dips.

10K galvos will be slow-ok for beams- for animation- not so good.

love to se how you changed out the lasers-

You upgrades look really good CT and it looks like this scanner can really pound out the photons now. Your new modules sure do take up any extra space that case offered.

That will definitely give you the maximum control over your scanner, I'm sure you will be happy. What controller and software did you end up going with?

Here's an option you can try:

LFI Player 3D Laser Display Software | Download LFI Player 3D Laser Display Software software for free at SourceForge.net

Or give this thread a read, post #5 offers tons of software options:

Best lasershow sotware for me?

One thing you must do Is research to make sure that what ever software you pick is compatible with the DAC you bought. I couldn't tell you what works/doesn't work off the top of my head but I do know most sound card DACs are not compatible with all software.
