btw, is it possible to mount a mirror on a cooling fan?
I can sell you mirrors cut to size. They are plain mirrors though. I can also buy a motor from you from a shop near my house. That would depend. They have all sorts of motors. High torque, high speed, low voltage, high current ETc.
A 1 feet by 1 feet plate of mirror would only cost about 4$ so cutting it down to size would be cheap. Like 50 cents each?

Default Re: FS mirrors? where?

I have the folks at a dozen thrift shops on the lookout for me on one-step poliroid cameras and cheap 35 mm cameras that wind and rewind the film with a motor--I generally pay no more than 1$ each --digital and lack of film has killed the sales of them--the 3v motors are gererally high quality and about the size of a aaa batt. but shorter-- the FS mirror in the poliroids can be cut to small pieces to make two or more spiros. s'all out there if you know where to look---HZ---ps edit--Fred at SShack is great to deal with and I highly recommend him/them too--

You guys did read me post....right?

You can buy a bag of 100 1" round mirrors for ~$10 at any craft store. Stripper and acetone are like $3 a bottle. You can even make money. Use what you need and sell the rest here for $1 a piece. Obviously people need them.

Default Re: FS mirrors? where?

The DIY FS mirror using stripper is not the best route. The end result is not a FS mirror, but rather a reflective surface full of blotches.

I tried this a while back and the results were not up to par.

Search ebay for your mirrors, I have bought in the past 1 mm thick and 1x1in sq FS mirror with the protective coating. I paid IIRC 15 cents each.

They wont be easy to find that cheap, but worth it if you want a clean beam exiting your spiro.

For the motors, the best I have found is the tray opening motor from a cd or dvd drive. They are low voltage, decent torque and the small plastic pulley that comes with them is an excellent point to mount the mirror.

Remove the pulley, mark the dead center of your mirror, drop a small bead of epoxy in the center, and position the pulley to the desired angle before the epoxy hardens.

The mirror can then be slipped on to the shaft of the motor with no additional adhesive. It, makes for a nice clean setup
