Ok cool

Two things though, this is hardware and software right? So why don't anyone put prices on them... and how exactly do I connect it up to my scanner. I have the kit one from Chinese dept. store.

i dont know about prices, you will have to e-mail them and find out.

i know one of the cheapest is the pangolin fb3 at about £250-300

there easy to connect up, we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

Once we cross the bridge that thats an even bigger price problem than the USB DMX...

How would you feel about making a DAC kit, all it needs is the ability to follow a circuit diagram and to solder. This is the one I am building.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=260183722993&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=016

£36.00 delivered, this is the RGB version and was supplied with the power supply kit.

I will be making the projector so that it can use the built in DMX or the laptop controlled DAC.

It is a well respected product from what I have read and discussed elsewhere. Only time will tell how good I find it to be.
Further down the line I may feel the need to upgrade but for now I want to control the cost of what is for me a hobby.

im only talk from personal experense.

i spent a bit getting kit, spent some time putting it all together and had a cappy dac. it was a let down.

a good dac makes such a difference, if you spending all your money on a scanner then do it properly

I have to disagree. That kit, which is very similar to the "DAC0835" circuit you can find all over the net, including photonlexicon, is an excellent way to start getting your feet wet with real scanning. Coupled with popelscan or HE-Laserscan, either DAC can do quite alot for very little $$. You can't really get up past 20k pps, and it only has 8-bit resolution, but you can have fun with it.

Course, once you've done that, you're hooked on scanning, and pangolin's FB3 kit suddenly becomes VERY attractive.

i would recommend anyone building a scanner to buy a DAC and not a usb dmx.

a usb dmx is to slow. You wil be very dissapointed with the result if you use a usb dmx

cool, its the way to go.

the results with a dmx will be so so poor. your scanners can do so much more than what a dmx can do

Yeah, main reason im going for the dac is so I can use it at parties not just for beam effects but I can write something like happy new year, or happy birthday ect.
