If you buy a DAC your DMX board gets disconnected, the DAC is directly connected to your galvo amps. The DAC replaces the DMX function, then you can do what ever you like, text, graphics, what every the scanner software is capable of doing and it also depends on your scanner speeds.

Thing is before you buy a DAC you need to make sure you can connect it to your galvo amps and laser drivers in some way. Don't expect it to just plug in, you may find matching connectors inside the scanner but it would definitely require some work.

Hmm, I will read those instructions when I get home but I am moving towards the simple DMX option to avoid playing around with something I have no knowlege with.

Well if you decide to go DMX, you will ONLY be able to use the preset patterns, none of that "write your own name" or whatever with it. Your choice, but IMO DMX is still not easy, but its simpler than a DAC, but you have ALOT less control.

Yes, I know but at least I can select the effects I want which is more than I can do now...

Think I will be using the beam scatter effect a lot haha looks good with single red it will be awesome with green and orange/yellow as well!

This might be what you want. It's quite pricey, but I might hit the nail on the head for what your after.

Oh yeah, I agree.

I'm not buying any DMX stuff, I'm going straight in with the FB3!
At the end of it, it's not that much more expensive.

But everyone to their own...

A buddy of mine wants to build his own show, but he is not into "stick figures on the wall", what he wants is tunnels, planes, waveshapes and the like.
He opts for DMX, but is yet unsure as to what to get. Any recommendation from you people? I don't think he wants a DAC.

Link to somewhere that sells them? Searching google for DAC gives millions of results that have nothing to do with it.

Ok cool

Two things though, this is hardware and software right? So why don't anyone put prices on them... and how exactly do I connect it up to my scanner. I have the kit one from Chinese dept. store.
