My first thought was, "No - that is simply a DMX to USB cable..." but after reading the description, I am not sure WHAT it is ! Wish I could help out more - other than warn you regarding dealing with a zero feedback person in another country.....COULD be potentially dangerous....inside the U.S. you are sort of protected against scams via Pay-pal/e-bay (hey..I SAID mostly !) but out of the country gives you a whole bunch more headache potential.

If that is a DMX controller built into a cable like that - it is incredible workmanship !

Yup ! you will need the 3 pin din cable to serial converter cable thingie.... other than that, my knowledge of DMX is pretty limited....Hemlock Mike might be able to answer better :)

looks to me like a full usb to DMX converter, if you think about it it's basically just a usb to serial converter chip inside the din connector, and the scanpro 20 comes with a DMX din style connector so it would be perfect but senkat has a point with buying from a zero feedback user.

My experience with DMX shows that it can access programmed sequences in a scanner. It is not high speed enough to make annimation. This may be changing. I rely on Things for updates.
Try a PM to Things.

The converter basically turns your PC into a DMX control board, so instead of having those huge boards you just have your PC with the USB to DMX converter... funny enough I was just looking at getting one yesterday.... great minds.... ;D http://www.innovateshowcontrols.com controller and software.... but expensive....

the DMX board that comes with the Scanpro20 is nice in that it comes with ILDA input and outputs, so all you need is a cable to plug it into a dac

As Mario already said you really need a DAC if you want to make your own effects. I thought the same as you a while back when I first got into scanners as well, DMX is only a sort of selection thing so you can choose which effect you want and adjust the speed or size of it via your PC.

A DAC on the other hand does everything you ever dreamed of with a laser, plus a bit of software needed. Animations, beam shows... or even projecting your mobile phone number onto the clouds if you really wanted to.

Heh, sorry I didnt see this. DMX can ONLY let you access the patterns that come built in with the scanners. They do let you modify them abit, but you cant make your own graphics/text etc. Its not that its not fast enough, its just that DMX was made to "control" lighting, not let you create patterns on a laser with it.
