Hello everyone,

I LOVE laser shows but my budget is VERY limited so i wanted to see if this would work. Yes i know they arent a "real" set of galvos but i heard they worked with laserboy...

http://cgi.ebay.com/Laser-Light-Sho...0|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50

and for a DAC i would use

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15746

and

http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_d...ection_Amp.php

Would that setup work? Has anyone used these "galvos"/ made the soundcard DAC? If you did how well do they work (alone/together)?

If they dont i may just fork out the money for a real set of 20k-30k galvos...A good set of galvonometers will last me a while...

Thanks

Those are not true galvos, no. The only problem I could see with using them is driving them properly. A set of galvos comes with amps to drive each one. It would seem that with those "galvos" you'd need to build your own amps. For simplicity's sake, I recommend buying some true galvos. Lasershowparts just started offering some truly inexpensive galvos (I think I gave you the link already) here:

I just finished building a soundcard DAC setup. The specifications for that DX sound card have changed slightly, and the connections for connecting it to the DrLava correction amp have changed due to this. I'll post some pics tonight of the updated connection points.

Other than using true galvos and amps, and getting the connections right on the sound card, your plan looks like it will work fine.

For around $150 you can get a 15K set of galvos that comes with an amp and a DMX board, including shipping. You would still need a DAC but you could use the DMX board in the meantime. Contact laserpic for galvo info. Lasershowparts are alright but they charge about 2x the price that you can get from the source.

Actually Gary, we have a new low cost set of scanners that are about the same price. And they outperform the Laserpic scanners

That are Spacelas ones, aren't they? Those are really better than laserpic. doing 28k @20°

The strange glavos in first posts looks to me like two simple rotating mirrors...

Its too bad the shipping is so high, I'm in the market for a inexpensive set but I'm gonna hold out till I find some stateside.

Chuck

$35USD is as cheep as you are going to find for a courier to the Unites States!

If you buy from China, you are going to have to pay more shipping, and less for the item.. If you buy stateside, you are going to pay less shipping, but Ill bet the product is going to cost you more in the first place..

Gary, I looked at there web site but all I saw were 20 and 30's. If I contact them will they have them as a normally stocked item? Or is this something they will have to order? I need a set to do basic beam shots, I'm not concerned with animations at this point.

I haven't contacted laserpic in a while. You'll have to email them and see what they say.

The price Dave has for the 20Ks isn't bad, though. I would consider that since his customer service will be better.
