Hello all,

It has been awhile since I was on there, but I was wondering if one of you could help me out. I am looking to "borrow" for a laser scanner that can basically do two things:

1) Tunnel
(http://www.definitivespecialprojects.co.uk/Assets/Gallery Large/laser light show cone.jpg)
2) Wave
(http://www.definitivespecialprojects.co.uk/Assets/Gallery Large/laser light show flat scan.jpg)

So I am looking to do this on a dance floor where the wave would be about waist height, and the tunnel would go floor to ceiling (meaning people would be in tunnel).

I recognize that nobody would want to just "loan" out their scanners, but I wondering if anyone would be willing to come out (it is for a private party at defcon) in las vegas, or would be willing to "rent" it to me. (I would OF COURSE be responsible for any damages that might happen etc)

thanks
-Bill

Make it yourself!

Those effects are SO easy to make. The tunnel is as easy as ataching a mirror to a motor perpendicular and shining a laser on it while spinning.

The wave effect (called liquid sky by us) is as easy as ataching a mirror to a motor in parallel with it's aixiz and shining a laser to it while spinning.

Then, if you need the wave or tunnel to move, it could be a bit harder, especially if you wan them to move randomly.

There is a difference between the "wave" and liquid sky effect...While you can easily make the liquid sky effect A DIY "wave" is not available without scanners.

you can make these effects SOOOO SIMPLY, If you have a PC fan and 2 mirrors you could make both effects... I have a DIY liquid sky and tunnel but the shipping would cost more than if you just did it yourself...I mean how hard is it to find a PC fan and a mirror-

Best of luck 2 ya

EDIT: I just looked at your 2nd pic and that is a liquid sky and not a wave...FYI

I labled this pic wrong...the time tunnel is the other and vice versa

If you have a bit of mechanical skill and patience, you can build a single unit that do both the effects, one or the other, and also can move the beam, at least vertically ..... look at the draws (bad, sorry, i'm at work and had to do it quick)

the carriage (you can use an old harvested sled and his steel axis, for it) hold the mirrors that exchange the beam path, or to the motor that do the tunnel, or to the motor that do the sky (but if you want to use two lasers, maybe different colors, one for tunnel and one for sky, you can avoid this) ..... the motors projects the beams on a mirror plate (can be harvested from old scanners and fax units, that usually had very large first surface mirrors), that is moved from a slow motor with gearbox (directly or through a tirant and a spring, this don't count), that can move a bit the effect up and down.

Just an idea i had on-the-fly, but can worth the effort to try :)

Thanks all, I will just make one! -- One last question, at what mw do I not have to worry about eyes? I was thinking about having a liquidsky at waist level, is this doable? (or is it too dangerous?)

If you mean fixed height, it can be more dangerous than moving ones, cause also if the beam is scanning fast, it hit always at the same height, and the effect may cumulate partially ..... so, if for any reason a person stay with eyes in the beam height also for a second or two, it can be dangerous the same .....

As you can see in disco, if the effects intersect the peoples, they keep them always moving.
