Default DIY from diodes or 'lab' modules for a projector?

Hi all,

I bought a REKE 500RGB from Dino-Direct a couple of years ago and have got to the stage where I want to build a bigger, better projector.

I want to be working in multiple of watts- definitely 532nm/445nm, potentially with Red as well and using some DT40s.

Having read a lot on here I understand that 532nm will be a DPSS module, but with 445nm and 660nm, what are the advantages and disadvantages of constructing something from open can diodes vs. buying a module and PSU?

Depends where your skill level is at, and most importantly, what tools you have access to. I would NOT attempt to DIY a multi-diode module unless you have a metal milling machine you can use, otherwise it'll just be far too difficult. You may also have an issue finding analog drivers, there are a few around but they can be pretty scarce. With a prebuilt module, you get a known quality, a driver, and a warranty.

No offence mate but don't attempt without a milling machine I say that's rubbish I built both my 445 and 638 modules for a 4w projector with basic tools and no experience it's really not that hard a bit of a pain lining up corrective optics but all in all I enjoyed it and saved heaps on buying pre made modules, I do agree about the drivers tho they can be slow to get your hands on but far from impossible
