CNI's Scanning System Set for only $230

40kpps at 20 degrees for that price(expect high dhl shipping cost to).
300 in total is still a good price for 40kpps...
Would like some reviews:)

Word of advice.

They're made by Sonima.

Avoid them like the plague. They're 'good enough' for what they are, but they could be better. You get what you pay for, and frankly, these really aren't worth it. Pay a little more, and get DT30s, or just stick with SpaceLas.

All the cheap Chinese scanners are copies of the CamTech 6800HP scanners, and all are crap, except some (ahem, DTs) are less crap than others.

Sadly, Sonima ranks at the bottom of the list. SpaceLas is better value, and they also have better products.

I considered getting a pair, but then I found out Sonima makes them.

Also, if you look at the datasheet, you'll find it isn't actually 40kpps at 20 degrees, or 80kpps at 5 degrees either. They made a mistake, and used the same template for all their galvo sets.

goninanbl00d, Thanks for the info on these galvos, I was almost thinking about purchasing these because I really want to get started on building my first scanner.

But I think I will just stick with saving up more of my money and waiting to purchase some PT-40Ks or PT-30Ks galvos.

The PT-40Ks are the same price as the DT30s (find a good supplier, and they should be the same). The DT30s aren't rated for as high a speed as the PT-40Ks, but the build quality is substantially better.

Which galvos have the better build quality...the PT-40Ks or the DT30s?

I would think the PT-40Ks since you are giving positive feedback about Spacelas, but that last sentance is worded so that it seems the DT30s are the better build quality galvos.

DT-30s. If you can afford them get DT-40 Pro Wides from CTLasers. They've gone up recently but are probably the best you'll get for under a grand. (They run ~$600 a set)

The SpaceLas galvos are good for their price, but in the grand scale of things, there will always better. They're not bad, as a matter of fact, and are generally held in much higher regard than ScanPros. Nonetheless, though, DT galvos are better-built than SpaceLas units.

A step up from Dragon Tiger would be Cambridge Technology itself, or even EyeMagic (makers of indestructible galvos).

If you're on a budget, stick to the SpaceLas galvos. If you can afford it, DT. If you have around $1.2-1.5k, then go for the 'entry-level' CamTech 6800HPs or the EyeMagic EMS4000s.

Do you have anything to back this up or are you just saying what you feel? The DT30s have been out for years so I'd be surprised if some of the other Chinese scanners hadn't caught up or surpassed them. Not saying they have but I don't buy the "all Chinese scanners are crap" that you are saying. I have been running a pair of cheap 30K Laserpic scanners for years and they have served me well. When I go to LEMs I really don't see any noticeable difference from what others are running. So, where's the crap?

Degrading scanners.... WTF ?

That's a start. Want more results? Just search. Or talk to Things here, he's one of many who's owned Sonima, and agrees that DT is much, much better.

I wasn't saying all Chinese scanners were crap, I was saying that it could be better. Much better, especially at that price point.

Actually, that is what you said.

I said:
  • All Chinese scanners (that us hobbyists use- I'm yet to see any EyeMagic or 6215 clones) are copies of the CT6800 family
  • As a result, when compared to the orignal CT6800s, they are of a low standard (i.e. crap)
  • Some are better than others, though, and perform to an acceptable standard (the DTs)
  • Others, however, do not (the Sonima sets)

All of which is true, last time I checked. :undecided:

You should then check my scanners...i first had these great 15k galvos who could run 5 points without flicker!!!
My new pt-30k can run about 50 points without flicker.
The first i had were unnamed galvos put in by CASA.

I have 6 sets of scanpro20s, which are made by Sonima, and they all work flawlessly. In fact they are my favorites due to their cost/performance ratio. I also have sets of DT-25s and DT-40s. The DTs are a bit better in terms of construction, and they cost more as a result. The output image quality is pretty much the same across every single Chinese scan set I have.. and ALL of mine are Chinese. Of course some are faster than others, a 20k set won't do 40k, but Chinese is Chinese IMO. You don't start seeing quality improvements worth getting excited about until you're using Cambridge, General Scanning or Eye Magic, which are American and European Companies and highly cost prohibitive in most cases..
