I am waiting on my 1.2W KVant 640 to come in hopefully this month but they are pretty backlogged with orders and such... sigh

I dont remember honestly... I have been waiting for it so long now it seems lol

but its getting combined with a pair of 1W 650nm lasers so I will have 3.2W of red in my projector

^How? I know there's a red dichro out there somewhere, but I thought it was for 635 and 660. 642 and 650 seems awfully close.

well people call them 650's but really they are 655nm... just like people interchangeably call them 640 or 642

if you look at the specs of the dicro I am using...



642nm is all the way to the left, 655 is all the way to the right...

so I reflect some 655 in the dicro but it isnt much

interestingly they are marked MRL-III-660nm-1W from CNI, but that is not possible since they dont make any 660nm lasers in that power level... so its probably a MRL-III-FS-655

but they were made as a pair, one marked Laser I and the other marked Laser II... one is H the other is V

And can we get a source for that dichro?

I've decided to get the 600mw kvant. Too many warning about the laserwave 640 to risk it. The kvant is $400 out of my price bracket, but dave at LSP is letting me "lay by" it. So it wont be such a big chunk of change in one go.

I've had my 150mW LW 640nm laser for over a year and a 1/2 now and never had any problems, but I assume it only uses 1 laser diode, thus no combining involved. Although the first one I bought died, and I sent it back to LW, but they replaced it completely free, and even shipped it back EMS for me The first modules did not contain lasorbs, now they do, so no problems there.

yes it only uses one diode - and 150mw isnt going to be enuf for my project

Cant wait to have this thing built - the titans laser show is going to look soo awesome on those DT40W's

Think I might get the green laser first so at least I can play with the projector. Then again, I really would like to see that kvant!

So tempting to make this a loooong build and buy the 900mw kvant

(long build = I'm on a small income, so saving for lasers will take a while! I got my icom 7000 ham radio this way though - took 2.5 months to pay it off)

on a sadder note I am no longer licensed - need to phone acma and renew - forgot to pay my license fees! (for ham radio)

Well guys, case arrived today - these are sweet cases, everything supplied down to the last nut and bolt, handles, reinforcing bars and even rubber feet. I put it together (dry run) to remove any shavings that may be still in the screw holes, swore and cursed a bit, and now it sits above me on the shelf awaiting lasers and the galvos.

Now am not sure if I want to use the front panel with handles, or the flush front panel. Both will suit the project fine, the handled one giving a more "industrial look" and the flush one giving a nice clean lines look.

Think I'll go with flush, it also has the reinforcement bars. Considering the weight in this thing, I'll probably need lots of it (reinforcement).

oh, and TTerbo, putting the handles on is easy if you have ball end drivers

edit: having measured up the case, a 1x1 foot piece of 8mm think T6061 aluminium plate has been placed in my cart with "performance metals" who are a local dealer. I will buy it on thursday (payday - yay!). Hopefully soon my galvos will show up, and construction can commence. Now I am NOT looking forward to using this nibbler!

Well I have decided. I want thor to be at least 2 watts, so I'm saving my pennies for the 900mw Kvant 640 nm laser.

So this project will be on about page 6 before I update it again, after I snap some shots of the galvos, enclosure, and the pangolin FB3 that will control it.

Thats a 655. I'd need 2.5 watts of that to match my 600mw or so of green. I am using 640nm due not only to brightness, but it doesnt have a flashlight beam like the 650-660nm lasers. (some beams are 3 x 8 mm - huge).
