Building into this case?

Ok so my laser scanner kit should finally be here tomorrow, cant wait! Only thing is, as far as I know it does not come with a case to mount it in... So I found this on maplin

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ITAG=FAQ&ModuleNo=1732&doy=4m11#faq

I am going to need to fit all the parts in there, cut a hole out for the beam to come out and I will be temporarily using my 75mW viper to bounce the beam onto the mirrors. Eventually I will buy a heatsink and a laser module and build it into the case.

Would that type of case be ideal for this type of thing? And does anyone else know where else I can buy these type of cases?

Do it right the first time, and you wont have to upgrade the case later on ! Try using a metal briefcase - rip all the guts out, and build using that ! IT would not only make it a helluva lot easier to carry - but will be sleek, and stylish at the same time as functional ! :) I am assuming of course that you can squeeze all your stuffs inside there - I think the majority of them are 4" tell or so ? I dunno, maybe closer to 5".

Nice, pretty useful.

Will try something similar, assuming all fits in the case I found in maplin then I can cut air holes and add a fan somehow. As I say I will only be using a 75mW green Viper for now so cooling isnt really such an issue for the moment.

i dont know what a viper is?

what scanners are you getting? even 10-15k scanner amps need cooling and im talking heat sink not fan.

you also want a solid base, if the metal flexis then your optics wont align

The Viper is from DragonLasers, its a normal 75mW green pointer. The scanner is a kit i bought from Chinese Dept. Store, which has all the boards, motors, mirrors, sound active, DMX and everything ready built, it just needs to be wired up and plugged in. The only thing it doesn't come with is the casing for the parts to go into so I need to sort that one out myself. The scanner is only 10k.

I don't want it to looks like a rubbish home job made from scrap wood I found lying around. I want it to look as though it was originally bought like it, thats why I like the metal casing idea although I am thinking of ABS plastic casing which could be more ridged than the metal.

so if your planning on using a pointer you wont have blanking?

so you wont be able to do much without blanking?

you can buy a 50mw 532nm module from aixiz very cheap, that will have blanking.

what do you mean doesnt say how it does it???

if you read all my guide it expains everything.

like power and wiring explains how to wire TTL up.

what do you need to know???

does your laser have a TTL input?

the dmx will have a ttl output but does the laser have a ttl input?

if its a pointer then im guessing not and you need a module.

just get a cheap one off ebay

Ah ok, once again I have learnt something new!

I found a 100mW green with TTL modulation on chinese dept. store for around £160 emailed them to check if it really has 100mW power output and will check ebay as well.
