Default Blanking System Required

Hello !

I'm new to laser shows, and have everything I though needed.
However, most stupidly forgot to consider blanking capabilities to my laser system.

My laser system consists of a simple laser, 30k galvo scanners and an iShow + DAC components.

Is there a laser that comes with a blanking capabilities "bundled" ?
Should I buy another special galvo for "cutting" the laser beam ?

I have no idea where to buy a blanking system.
My laser system is small, and doesn't require an advanced blanking system (like PCAOM?).
This is all to get a hinch of this entire subject.

Thank you in advanced of course !

all you need is laser module with possibility of TTL or analog modulation. get TTL if you want just on/off laser, analog can be adjusted from 0 to 100% brightness.
TTL is ok for basic (one colour) laser, analog is good for RGB lasers (for precise colour adjustment)
look here: 200mW of green for $125 shipped!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi 3zuli, thanks for the response.!

I sent a message to the seller, as he doesn't seem to ship it to where I live.
However, I'm really into blue laser (473nm), but it costs like hundreds of $ .. Do you happen to know a source for buying a blue Diode/DPSS laser with TTL for blanking ?

What do you think about me staying with my current just green laser, and add it some Glavo for blanking ? (If so, do you have any sources for that too ?)

I really thank thee !~

hey, you will want the flex mod drivers by dr.lava. go the buy/sell/trade section. i believe there is a stick. if you want full color control you will want anolog modulation. also go with the green module 3zuli linked.

I think it would be better to use 445nm laser instead of 473nm. 1W 445nm module + driver + heatsink can be built for $80 or less, 473nm costs hundreds of $$$ just for few mW...

It really depends though. 445nm lasers are darker blue than the 473nm counterparts and have poor beamspecs. Then again, it may not make a big difference depending on the application and size of the show, etc.

Dildror: Most "lab"-style lasers used for projectors come with drivers that provide TTL blanking (i.e. modulation) in with the driver because they're made for laser shows. The laser 3zuli linked you is just an example, and you can get them elsewhere depending on your location. Here's a site that sells some in various colors:

Red
Green
Blue (445nm)
Blue (473nm)

Remember that it will cost you some to get these lasers. They're just not that cheap, especially the 473nm blues. You could start out with a cheap red, and then see what you need from there. Greens are the brightest for their power output.

Hello guys,

I found this O-Like laser (Here) which seems at the right price, but 1W is way way too powerful.
Can I lower its intensity to somewhere around 150mW like laser ?

Bionic-Badger, (This) laser also looks too powerful.

My chosen laser needs to be blue or violet, up to 200$, with TTL modulation and not that powerful (as I'm using only one color small show) and fine end dot.

With too many stores and options out there, how can a newbie like me know what is the right one ?

You can usually adjust the output power on those power supplies by adjusting the pot.

What is the right one? Your budget and choice of colors really limits your options so you'll have to make do or use some ingenuity. Traditional laser shows use 473nm DPSS lasers, which is out of your budget, so I would see how the 445nm laser works for you.

Before you buy one, buy some safety goggles.

The short answer is that to know what you need you need to read the specs and see if it suits your requirements. I'm guessing you are thinking "but I don't know what the specs mean". And that has me thinking that the first thing you should do is look at some specs and then find out what all that means. Once you know what they all mean and know what your requirements are you will be able to buy a module as an educated consumer. If you have specific questions feel free to ask.

You can take a look at the soundcard dac sticky thread, i've place a schematic for a LD driver with analog modulation on page 3. This schematic is usable with various lasers, it's been tried with red, green dpss and 445 blue. The green is just a module though, where i replaced the existing driver with this circuit.

If you have labby modules with TEC control (probably with 473 dpss) it will not be as simple, and you're probably better off buying a new laser with modulation/blanking built in.

Ok you guys, I think I narrowed it to 2 laser from O-Like:
1) 1W 445nm
* Has TTL of up to 20 kHz, but extremely powerful (1W). All I need is this kind of laser up to 150mW and I don't know if this one can be used at this low power (O-Like's support has yet to return my question regarding this).

2) 150mW 405nm
* Has TTL of up to 2 kHz, but power range is well suitable for me.

This leads me to the following question:
What is the ratio between PPS and HZ ?
I'm using 30 kpps scanners, but from about 35 kpps I'm starting to see very smooth pictures.
What's the relationship between the PPS number and something like FPS (for animation purposes ...) ?

the one watt from o-like has a description in the product page. Theres a pot on the board. You turn it left to lower the power.

The second laser you mentioned is actually more deep violet than blue.

The 445nm at 150mw will appear much brighter than the 405nm laser at 150mw.
