Default 27m X 3m laser show

Hello to all, a nooby here after a little bit of advice please.
I have an idea for a display it will be around 27 m long by 3m tall. I'm envisaging something like a Santa/sleigh and reindeer's. A simple one colour display with maybe the reindeer's legs moving and the odd tree or hill top whizzing past.
My questions are really is this type of size display possible without spending thousands? Would it be better to try and do it with on projector or multiple? What kind of power laser would i need to get a decent brightness over this size? I'm not sure at this point (if the project is possible) to build it myself or not. I'm an avid electronics /software tinkerer and not bad in the machine shop if needed, Oh and I'm in the UK. I don't want to be too specific in this post as I'm really open to suggestions and maybe a laser show isn't the way to go.
Thanks in anticipation.

well you would need a pc controlled scanner, and then we are talking 600++ USD for the software and some of the essential hardware.

but i would actualy recomend a 27M X 3M LED module screen, as these would be cost efficien.

but as this is a laser forum, 1 or 2 scanners would definetly be able to pull this through.

but you would need RGB Scanners.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure why I'd need RGB lasers though.

You don't need RGB. Post 2 maybe didn't read your whole comment.

I was a little confused by the RGB bit. How much would an LED panel be for this size? I'm willing to be wrong but surely it can't be cheaper than two or three single coloured lasers set up in some sort of trandom (tandem plus one).

I purchased one of the cheapo chinese programmable lasers to have a play with and it came with Ishow software. I'm used to programming and have written software for all sorts but I can't get this thing to do what I want..

are these scanner type lasers raster or vector ?

Thanks.

Vector. Ishow is generally junk and it's output and usability reflect that so I wouldn't feel too bad about not being able to get it to perform to your standards. You can connect an ishow control setup to the very best of laser projectors and the output and overall usability will suffer as a result.

These days the most expensive part of a starter laser show system often isn't the laser projectors themselves, they can be obtained fully assembled from China for very little money up to a certain power level.. the most costly part of the system will be the control system, ie DAC and software. The amount of influence the control system has on overall show quality can't be overstated.

Maybe I should get one of the projector set ups you mentioned and have a play. Would there be any particular one you would recommend? I'm not really trying to achieve anywhere near a professional level show at present. I could have a go at building my own micro controller for it and write my own software. Just dreaming here for a minute but it would be handy to do the sketches in AutoCAD then convert for the laser. As you mentioned DACs I guess the projectors need an X and Y analogue signal indicating the required displacement and will be some sort of galvo / mirror set up

^Spot on, the preferred method of generating laser imagery is an x,y setup using galvos/mirrors.

ILD SOS is a utility that converts .svg files into laser display frames. Google it for more info.

Search the forum for info on REKE projectors, they are among the most cost effective Chinese projectors, and they've been favorably reviewed here several times.

This is the one I've got (a bit cheaper than 134) so it isn't too much different in cost to one of the REKE ones ( I wished I’d read this first and got one of them). It states it does an ILDA mode but hasn't got a 25 pin D socket on it so must do it all internally. It also has an SD card in it with various patterns on so inside there must be a little micro controller and a DAC. I'm wondering if I peel it open I may be able to spot where I could inject a digital or analogue input to control it.
It looks like the ILDA SOS will do the job of conversion from Auto Cad no problem

I'd recommend this one, as well:

That's the same one as I've got but I wouldn't recommend it at the moment. Have you managed to programme your own characters etc? The Ishow software hasn’t really got any helpful help files, no tutorials and appears pretty poor but maybe that's just me. Would you know of any tutorials or texts describing the steps taken to actually produce a new image even something simple like a revolving 2013 banner. The other problem with this one as I said above is no way to connect it to a PC as a controller on the ILDA front. Ie no D type connector on the back. Any help in getting this one sorted will be most appreciated.
