JDSU Argon Ion Laser Head 30mW 488nm 2214-30SLQT

JDSU Argon Ion Laser Head 30mW 488nm 2214-30SLQT on eBay (end time 06-Sep-09 18:28:07 BST)

The main reason I post is that the laser is located in the UK, so this is a good chance for anyone in the UK or Europe to get in on an argon laser head.

Bid atm is 30 pounds, it has 0 bidders and 6 hours remaining, this one could be a steal folks, if I had the spare cash on hand I would pick it up myself.

Good luck bidding, if anyone is interested.

Thanks
brtaman

How common are power supplies for these?

Common enough if you know where to look. There are usually a few on eBay for a decent price. Someone here may have one for sale / trade as well. It will need at least 200cfm of air going through the head to keep it cool.

I might have a bid on this. I have found a brand new PSU for $80, and after that, I just need a Fan, and an "umbilical cord." Where can I get these?

The umbilical cord on those heads is attached, not like on the spectra physics heads. make sure it's a 2214-40MLA type PSU. A 2213 or 2201 will not work ( 2201 different connectors, 2213 for a much larger head ).

Have you checked the shipping on that unit to the UK? It should weigh in at around 10Kg packaged!

If you buy the laser, PM me. We will work something out for a PSU.

The fan will pretty much be a DIY project on this one. You need a "dryer vent" type hose with the fan attached to the end of it.

I think that I even have a 220V JDS Uniphase fan for this one. I'll look when I get home on Monday or Tuesday

Peace,
dave

That PS looks to be either high or low voltage( some are one V only) THer is one often referred as the 'gold' model due to case color- and is considered more desirable as you can move a switch for the voltage you have on hand. It looks like this one is also according to the label. You will need the fan to suck the air from the head and I found an old airhocky table along the road with the same fan- lt can be found also on-line. You will also need to make jumpers to run it or a JDSU remote controller($$) and again there are bare-bones units that do all the fancy one does except no read-out but there are still places to use your DVM to check(99$). I have one made from a computer plug and a pot with four wires that allows me to run at idle or turn up to max. Without fan to cool u will get it too hot quite fast. I have two PSs that require high voltage only and will send from USA but shiping will be whatever it is from Texas to you. in case anyone wants one of them--too much work to convert to 110V. I will post photos in my alblums.<(*u*)>

One more thing- the seller from Scotland (Leslie)is a super person that will go out of his way to help anyone. His stuff has been added to Sam's so you know what that means- he did a complete tutorial on proper way to clean a dirty argon head with incredble detail and close-ups and all I asked was for some tips on How-to. I would buy anything from him incomplete confidence. Go to his ebay ad click feedback number- click 'see more' at the right and then click 'see my page' he does way-cool artwork using Xrays Too!

congrats on the laser head rob, you definitely got a good deal on it. :san:

The seller is a member on 4hv, I thought I would put the word out to help with his sale.

No problem, Rob. Glad to see the laser is going to a good home.

Of course you do realize that we will demand a hefty amount of beamshots when you set it up?
