He has had some items I haven't seen / can't find anywhere.

I'm interested in 980nm laser diode lensed. Still have any of those?

Or any other IR diodes near 980nm with FAC lens. 940nm?

Dont you guys use Google before buying anything?

Google

The stuff he is selling now is the remaining crap of his inventory. Which is the stuff thats broken, or no one wants to buy.

I would agree with you and this is why I have not purchased anything from his company in the past, even though there where a few things that caught my attention. One does have to pay attention to reputation in sales.

As for now, his items are going through another auction house and shipped by another company as well. I see it as an opportunity to pick up bulk diodes for practice and experimenting, perhaps some cheap laser modules for color mixing or...as you have pointed out...learning how to fix it.;)

In the past it might have been a bad idea to do business with his company but now there is a chance you can get a whole bunch of crap for a good price:whistle:

What's the deal with "internet users" paying an 18% premium. What over type of users are there? I perhaps don't understand proxibid, having never used it before - but is this a real in-the-flesh auction that someone might attend and bid at also ?

Well I purchased from heru back when he was on Ebay... and I'll just say it was a pleasant transaction, and I got a lot of stuff for a great price. I also purchased an assorted optics kit from him and an assorted electronics kit (both "grab bags") and was very happy with the random stuff I got. If people think back, he even gave working HeNe's w/ power supply in some people's kits. He also threw in one of his 25packs of 9mm high powered diodes in my electronics kit. I don't know everything that's happened since then though, and quite frankly, I'm not going to sift through all of his threads. I know he's done some bad practices like bidding on his own auctions, but no matter what, his items have been a steal to me. He usually throws in more when possible.

Uhm, bidding, PLUS 18%, PLUS eventual taxes, PLUS shipping fees (applied separately from shipping company and NOT declared anticipately) ..... PLUS another 40% custom taxes, here .....

There are some interesting things, but for non-USA bidders, it seem decisely not a good affair :p .....

EDIT: i'm not saying anything against Heruur, here ..... is only that online auction company, that does not convince me too much .....

Has anyone looked into shipping on this stuff. That worries me also. In addition to the 18%, a separate company is shipping for an additional charge on the cc plus their own charge. Does anyone know what kind of charges they'll have on that?

Yes i have several of those 980nm microlensed laser diodes, how many do you need? If you need them soon I can post them on Amazon for you. I was going to sell them in the next auction. It will take about 2 or 3 auctions to liquidate everything. This auction has most of the more unique items.

Shipping is not going to be too bad on the smaller items like laser diodes, but the big argon laser tube will cost a lot to ship for instance. Probably the best way for people to get these things for foreign people would be a group buy.

I am VERY reluctant to commit my credit card to an unstated (or at least estimated) "shipping" cost. I have dealt with private shipping companies many times. Their charges to "package" the item is often exorbitant.

I was taught a long time ago to avoid giving ANYBODY a signed "blank check." You have no recourse if you disagree with their charges

In addition, the 18% surcharge is well beyond what I would personally accept.

I started to register. I got about 3/4 of the way through the process when I realized I was giving WAY too much power over my credit card to an unknown entity AND apparently paying them for that privilege. :tsk:

Can you explain to us why people call you a scammer?

Read the threads at the links provided by TJ. Asking the accused to explain why others call him that is an excercise in futility

If you call the number for the "shipping company" they've designated, it doesn't actually go to a business at all, it goes to "sharon" (an individual / personal phone)
Auction Information, Betthausers' Auction Service, Inc. - GOLD ELECT. SCRAP IND. METALS LASERS OPTICS & MORE

262-313-7708

And the email address for JPK shipping (jpksvc@yahoo.com) bounces back.
OP, you need to clear up some of these questions. Particularly regarding shipping costs. I don't think you're going to get any serious bids unless you address this head on.

Sharon is apparently a fine 8-Ball player. She is the captain of her team - "Wing N It"

I also found one of the "part owners/operators" of the shipping company's resume online. Apparently he is looking for work ;)

James Klokow's Online Resume | Current Status: "In need of a job"

I know that Chris is running out of places to hawk his wares, but this proxibid system is a bit too shaky from where I sit.

Peace,
dave

It looks like you are left with only your trust in Chris through this auction service

Haven't most of you read the threads I posted? He lies, miss-represents, screwed people outright, and has a multi-year record of scamming people.

He bought this crap from a business that went out of business years ago. In the beginning some of it was decent, but it went down from there. At this point the inventory is bottom of the barrel. Its mostly broken, miss-labeled, and stuff no one wanted.

Dont be so naive to give your money away to a person whole openly ripped people off, or an internet company who's got a questionable back ground. Keep in mind he has to use this company because he's been kicked off all the other online auctions.

He sent rocks to this guy. Hesc Photonics

Use your brain, and dont be a fool.

Yeah, what I'm doing screams "bad judgment" all over the place, but the items are currently cheap enough to be worth the risk - if *anything* I bid on shows up I'll be happy.
This is, of course, assuming that I don't get charged thousands in shipping.
