Well, even if I knew a laser didn't have IR, I still wouldn't put myself in line with the beam. Maybe it's IR-free, but there's still 532 of a fairly high power. I don't want to be downstream of that - even slightly off axis where some IR (if it was there) would otherwise spill.

Frankly, if you're relying on a lack of IR for safety, you're probably doing something wrong - because I would argue that your eyes shouldn't be anywhere near where the IR WOULD BE, even if it's not actually there. That's probably a dangerous spot to be PERIOD.

IR is invisible..... 532nm is not....

My question is - where would you be positioning your eyes that would be SAFE with an IR-filtered laser, but NOT SAFE with one that was not?

I'm looking for some cheap crystals that will make a lot of green (>250mW).

RA, I believe that most of the modules that are built like the linked one contain discreet crystals mounted on their own mounts within the module.

Also, you can find cheap IR filter and break it up into a bunch of little itty bitty IR filters that you can glue on the inside of your lasers' apertures!

LB is saying that, just like how you shouldn't be pointing lasers at your eyes, but yet you still wear goggles, just in case. Same with the IR, the filters adn stuff are there just in case. Heck, nobody MEANS to shine lasers into their eyes. Accidents happen, though.
