PM sent

BTW from my reading on any Sieg lathe (C0 and up) these are best viewed as a kit, you have to tear down the unit, degrease, oil, adjust and reassemble. This is a bit of work. If you want it to be perfect from the get go, too bad, it won't be. Tolerances are probably in the neighborhood of ten thousanths which may or may not be good enough for you. It certainly isn't going to be a 60,000 HAAS lathe. But with some finesse and patience if you take the time you can probably put out something decent.

But as was stated in an earlier thread, most of it depends on the user!

Has anyone ordered any accessories for it yet? It looks like you will need a chuck on the tail stock end for boring and some cutting tools.

I am | | <--- that close to ordering one. Just trying to find out how much more it will cost to be able to turn some aluminum stock and maybe make some simple heatsinks or even very small hosts. I realize this is not very accurate but with patience maybe something acceptable can be made. There is 0 chance of me getting a $400 - $500 lathe anytime soon.

LittleMachineShop has most of the Sieg C0 accessories except the 2" jaws are not in stock.
Looks like quite a few members are getting in on this deal so if anyone locates 2" jaws or other good sources for accessories kindly do post.

Halo --

I presume you are ordering one from your post. There are some neet 1/8 " cutting tools available at HF. What's your first project? Machining is almost as fun as lasers.

Well this is interesting.

4" x 5" Micro Lathe 4"x5" Mini Lathe 4x5 Metal lathe - eBay (item 320502507058 end time Mar-18-10 10:38:24 PDT)

They list max capacity stock as 7/16" for this.

I guess I'll find out when I get mine.

Just got this reply from ebay seller

Dear icecruncher,

The 7/16" refers to the stock capacity through the spindle bore.
That's useful to know if you intend to use bar-stock for your
project

Default Re: Sieg C0 Micro Lathe $73.00

Ordered one(with wife's approval even!). This site has cost me sooooo much money .

It looks like a minimum we need...

- time to un-assemble, clean, re-oil, re-grease, and then reassemble.
- cutting bits. I am unsure if 1/4" is the only size that will fit or not.

If we want use of the tail end then we need to purchase a live center or chuck I think. I don't plan to order any accessories until I get the device to make sure I order the right stuff. My understanding so far is that the tail end has 14mm threads for a chuck to attach too. What confuses me is that the littlemachineshop.com shows that the live center has a 10mm straight shank though. I am uncertain how that will attach to the 14mm threads.

I am finding it hard to determine which chucks would attach to the head end and which are compatible with the tail end too.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can comment. Which would be anyone who has touched a lathe .

You can still use larger bar stock if you remove the tail and install the optional Steady Rest which "Supports work up to 40 mm (1.5") in diameter". That is how I understand it anyway.

I just called to check on my order from the 16th because I didn't get a shipment notification. They mentioned it is back ordered and that it could take 20 days or so for them to ship it.

It will be interesting to see if they actually get any in or not. If they are discontinuing it(just a rumour at this point) then they might not be able to get any more.

I have ordered from Harbor Freight Online before and they can be VERY slow with shipping. So, if it doesn't come right away don't panic.

Mine is here!

Covered in oil

There has been some concern and discussion about the size of stock it can handle. The chuck jaws can hold 1.25in stock

I have class this afternoon. It will be a couple of days before I can clean it up and play with it.

This is one of the best tool deals I have ever gotten

+1 for the "heads up"
