Im having a hard time trying to decide which laser is better:
FWT - $230 (x1)18650 (Link: www.rayfoss.com)
FTB - $205 (x2)CR123A (Link: www.rayfoss.com)

I asked them whether the FTB is more powerful than the FWT as it uses two RC123A batteries, which their voltage is higher than one 18650. Their reply:

Well I don't know if its the chinglish or their fact that a 18650 laser has higher power output than two CR123A laser... but theres a strong smell of bs coming out of this email...
I suspect they are trying to bs me into buying the more expensive one.

what do you think?
(and does anyone has the FWT? please share your experience if you do)

FTB:
- Has boost driver that is being run below spec limit = More expensive driver that has a better chance for long term survival

- Uses an 18650 battery = Longer between recharges

- Is already set up as waterproof


Two 16340's is not "stronger" than a single 18650

The outputs (if they arrive lasing at their rated outputs) are, virtually, the same. One is >700mW. The other is 800-1000mW. You will NOT be able to "see" a difference.

In the original post you mixed up the battery types. I checked the links and the FWT uses 1X 18650 and the FBT uses 2X 16340.

The difference in power you see in that video does not tell you anything about comparing the two lasers.
All it says is that a laser designed to operate on 7.2V input does not perform well with 4.2V input.

One is designed for 18650 and one is designed for 16340.
As Dave says, the output will be identical (assuming both are operating within normal specifications and powered by the correct battery type).

<hint> The two lasers you linked to have DIFFERENT drivers. The video you watched is changing the batteries in the SAME laser (thus the same driver)

Have you had your critical thinking class yet?

That E-Mail sounds very honest to me... I don't smell
any BS....

It is NOT the Capacity or the number of Batteries that
depict the Laser Beam's power... it is the setting of the
Driver and the LD in questioin...

IF you want to know if a laser is up to spec with freshly
charged batteries there is only one sure way.... with an LPM..

There are really only two major differences you will see in the battery setup...

1. Two CR123 batteries will generate a slightly higher voltage
2. The 18650 battery will last much longer.

As for which laser is better it really depends on the setup. I think Daguin pretty much hit it on the head in regards to the drivers being used between the two setups. It sounds like the FTB is the better of the two options, though certainly nothing wrong with the other one. If you want more power out of your FTB, simply crank up the driver :).

Most commercially available lasers are already running at about as high as they are able to go. This may be different since these are 445's but 99% of the time, turning up the potenciometer(i.e.-Pot Modding) to attain a higher output power will only serve to drastically shorten the life of the laser, sometimes killing it.....and NO warranty will cover that.

By doing a little research and reading on the Forum
you will become aware of the fact that the consensus by
the knowledgeable members is that Pot Modding will
more than likely KILL you Laser...

OK guys I need an answer fast coz I'm getting insane!! Because of my limited knowledge and information sources I cannot figure out which one is stronger unless i buy them both and do the measurements myself, which is not practical because I'm really tight on money and don't have the measuring equipment required nor a cheap or easy way to acquire it...

If theres some senior expert or owners out there reading this can you please tell me which one is more powerful?? and by how much mw is the spartan (1000~1100mw?) more powerful than these two?
When answering please pretend that they don't have the extra waterproof lens.

My assumptions which make me prefer the FWT/FTB over the spartan:
(Please, by all means, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't want to buy one of them and later regret it because of some silly assumptions...)
I want the FTB/FWT mainly because they are focusable, (1) which makes the divergence trivial and allow good results at both burning at close range and pointing at galaxies far fa... thats why I prefer them over the (2) spartan which has high divergence, (3) and won't point farther (4) or burn better than the FWT/FTB when focused accordingly because (5) the difference in their output power compared to the spartan is negligible.)

Many thanks for reading this and any help wold be much appreciated!! (Especially correcting my assumptions in case they're wrong..)
