Re: Ya

Rayfoss - 300me 635nm - $55

My guess is that these are multimode, yeah? But maybe not o_O

EDIT: Well, they are for display systems, so I would assume NOT for picoprojectors (too much power, how would they evenly balance it), so I would think it is most likely that they are those nasty multimode 638s?

EDIT 2: Yeah, these are those nasty multimode ones. The divergence is awful - 7/35

That was also before the price change.:eg:

You know, she is a bitch. She sees some of us interested in them, than hikes the price? Can you be a bigger douche?

Yep her price hike came right after her first response to me.

At least she changed the shipping to free :tinfoil:

You guys (well, your fantastic investigative work) sold me on buying one after all. The datasheet confirming this diode's model swayed me.

I'm going to point out the obvious here - at ~$55 or 60, these diodes are far below the "direct from manufacturer" price, even for a large bulk order of several hundred diodes (or any other quantity that Rayfoss could have reasonably ordered). So, it's pretty plain to see that there is a new harvestable item that contains this diode. (assuming this really is the Mitsubishi diode it claims to be)

This also means, we can probably source this diode for less than the $55 original Rayfoss price, if we can figure out what it's being put in.

So... where will we find it now?

This is now your assignment

You must purchase anything that looks like it might need 300mW of 635nm light and tear it apart.

Don't get discouraged if you don't find the diode in the first couple of things you buy. :undecided:

That is all part of the experience :na:

j/k

Peace,
dave

Rayfoss just responded to my post-purchase question about the state of the diodes:

ME:
1) Is this diode brand new?
2) Will there be any signs of solder on the pins, or any visual indication that it way removed from a device before being sold?

RAYFOSS:
This is the brand new item. The PIN is neat and clean.

So, assuming their response to be accurate, these aren't harvests (or perhaps they are harvests that can be done in a way that keeps the pins clean. Doubtful though - I haven't seen such a low-impact diode mounting on anything we harvest as of yet.

or you can just ask her where she gets these
maybe she will be nice enough to tell you since you are paying the "premium" price :p

Well, here we go again:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250885289815&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:CA:1123

As a heads up, even if these ARE real, we've had some input in another thread suggesting that the output on these is difficult to tame into a dot.

Yet, still, pretty cool. In that particular thread, we were getting quotes up around $350, even with hypothetical large order sizes. If these really are new, and if they're really not harvests, then I'm stumped as to what is going on. Unless Mits is just feeling the pressure of Opnext reds on their heels, and is lowering their price? Still - that's a huge drop in price in just a few months.
