Well, what's important is that the laser light is blocked by the goggles. The fact that those goggles are melting means that a great deal of the light's energy is being absorbed. I'd expect other, more expensive goggles would also melt under such treatment. What needs to be determined is how much passes through before the goggles finally fail.

What I don't like about those red goggles is just how hard it is to see through them. The red filter makes everything look terrible, and I'd rather have one that is orange. Those goggles are also very uncomfortable, and I've broken them before because I was trying to bend those damn ear-pieces to have it fit on my head.

Yeah I agree with what your saying about the orange giving better vision over the red. I wrote a review testing their performance. It was able to block my 2.8w laser over and over with a reading of 0mw on the other side. I think my laserbee 3.2w is only accurate according to Jerry above 5 mw but I an still satisfied with the results. Yes if you watch the videos I burnt the shit out of t. m but still had no reading behind them. For a performance/price ratio I don't believe there is anything that can beat them. They are not the best designed or most comfortable but they do keep you safe which is their main purpose and for a pretty cheap price. I have paid more for my first pair of safety glasses and they were much cheaper feeling then these. I tested two pairs just to check consistency and they both achieved the same results. If you have money to spend there are much better options out there but if you want to spend the least amount of money without sacrificing safety these my choice. This Is a deals thread so let's keep on topic but if someone would like to tell me why you wouldn't trust them because they believe they are not safe I am willing to discuss it on my review thread

Its pretty much a tiny 532 module on the end of an 808 5.6 diode.

Thats one of those 515-520nm laser diodes that have been around. ive seen them for $250 at ulasers.

I've seen this elsewhere and cant seem to find it. IIRC it actually is a 532nm DPSS. Just all built into the extra long can right on the diode.

Edit: I found it and was mistaken. Snake Creek Lasers MicroGreen 532
This is what I was thinking of.

Says 520nm in the Osram datasheet that the seller has posted, so it is actually a green diode. :D

If it was 532nm the datasheet would say exactly 532nm.

Yes. exactly. a micro DPSS? do you have a link to datasheet and/or laser pr0n with this component?

Nope. Im tempted to get one and use it in a build. Dont think I have seen this anywhere. At 200 $ a pop I dont know though haha

DPSS lasers have an operating voltage of ~1.9-2.2V. This is certainly a diode.

I thought an Osram in any wavelength green suggested direct diode, and not DPSS (532). I'm shopping for higher output headlamps for my car, and notice Osram Sylvania all over the place. ;)

Just as the words "Argon," "Krypton" or "Laser" catch my eye, anywhere, now it's Osram, too!

Consistency.

I believe they are not safe because of a lack of consistency.

Those red style goggles are manufactured by dozens of different companies, and resold by hundreds of vendors.

You don't know that the set of goggles you get from one purchase to the next will be consistent.

The reason I feel comfortable recommending the Uvex SCT orange ones, is they have a rather definitive spec sheet, and they are made by one company.

The reason I felt comfortable suggesting that people buy goggles from radiantalpha when they used to offer goggles of that specific style, is they received them in batches, and could confirm that they are in fact good enough to use.

I give up you win! :spank: lol I get what you are saying, they can change manufactures and the quality will go down and you wouldn't know. Have you found inconsistencies in them? The two I tested were from two different orders but they preformed the same. I guess only time will tell if they are able to maintain their quality.

I had (have?) two pairs from different sources. They were different from each other, in terms of how dark they were, and through one of them I could clearly still see blue light.

Just wanted to give a heads up techhood@fleebay has been accepting offers of $7.50 per LPC-826, i buy two at a time ($15.00), seems to work better than trying to get 1 for 7.50, which they usually wont accept.
