Yikes, is that 50 watts output of green?

Yep. Green+yellow. 510 and 578 nm correspondantly.

Does anyone need an argon laser retinal photocoagulator? It should have at least a couple of Watts of multiline output.

ZEISS SLIT LAMP ZLSA.02 ARGON II LASER HUMPHREY INSTRUMENTS !!

That's been on there for a while, I spotted that a good month or so back.

50W copper vapour laser with built-in power unit.

OXFORD LASERS LM 35 LASER SYSTEM. MÖGLICHERWEISE CU DAMPF

Nice! 50W looks to be the label power, so probably a little lower in reality. Great find though!

Green/Yellow, as Laserbuilder already said. External gas fill too, so not a sealed tube. I wouldn't like to service the PSU on one of those...

I personally don't see anything special about this. Only pull away the plug from the wall, in order not to be zapped by 40-50 kV on the anode of the thyratron or on the laser tube itself. Anyway, short-pulsed voltage at high PRR is not as dangerous as lower voltage on DC. 6 kV DC in my CVL is absolutely lethal, when 25 kV pulsed can only cause burns.

Both will kill you dead.

The output from the PSU in one of these will absolutely kill you too. I remember reading a post on PL years ago about a professor/instructor who was killed while working on one of these. The moral of the story was "keep one hand behind your back at all times". Can't find it now.

Not so bad if it's off, but wouldn't be going anywhere near the "guts" while it was on/plugged on.

Well, I'll argue a bit. The lasers I worked with were not that powerful, but the "hot" electrode of the laser tube in the LGI-101 CVL has direct contact with cooling water from the tap supply. The laser tube is always decoupled from the DC by a capacitor, so there are only HF pulses on it, otherwise the system will not work. The frequency often exeeds 10 kHz, so skin-effect will be significant. The pulse width is usually less than 100 ns. Such thing will create very severe arcs at opertaing power and WILL do a damage, but it will not act as an electric chair, where a thick DC surge stops heart and melts down brains. On the other hand, the anode of the thyratron is directly connected to the DC supply terminal, so it really will kill anyone.

OK, this is a bit off-topic. As a return -- here are some more topic-related links.

Oh yeah, it may well have been the HV DC input to the thyratrons that killed man I talked about. Either way, not for me! You seem to know what you're doing though. :D

Anyone have recent experience with these Aixiz drivers?

2pcs adjustable current laser diode driver 80-500mA w/TTL | eBay

They look right to me for the Sharp 780 nm single mode diodes I have ordered which draw about 150 ma at 2.2 VDC, but i still don't know whether the diodes are case positive or negative. Maybe I am not seeing it on the data sheet for what it is?

That is the same driver used by many suppliers of 532nm lasers. It could work for the 780nm diodes. At least they are dirt cheap.

Edit: OOhh, no. The 780nm diodes are case negative. Can't use that driver. Any driver that is continuous negative should work, though.

Darn, I thought that might be the case, but I just don't see where it shows that on the data sheet. Might be right in front of my eyes and missing it, I don't know.

First page of the pdf, the cathode is tied to pin # 2, which if you look, is the case pin. So, sorry, but that driver will only work if you isolate it from the rest of the heat sink. ;)

Aha, not called out but right there in the drawing, i knew it would be something in front of my face. Thanks Paul.

Edit: I just realised these are the same diode I bought some years ago from Techhood, same wavelength and power, got to be, got 100 from him, but he didn't know the part number. Now I have even more! Flush! He did point out they were case negative, same problem.

I saw this listing earlier today. I get email updates from certain suppliers. It is small, but for the money, could be a good deal.
