Hey, Chris. What about the 473nm DPSS you linked to, there are 7 of then and they have working spectrometers in them that could be repurposed for use outside the laser.

Something interesting I just noticed about that listing too, not sure if anyone else picked up on this.

Laser, 473nm blue with at least 0.5mW output (laser diode pumped with a 2.5W internal laser diode).

I was thinking that one where the laser didn't work might go for less. Still have lots of optics and other stuff including the spectrometer. I have the setup procedure in one of my files for it.

When I asked the seller what the output power of the units which are not listed as parts and he answered 1/2 mw, I think they are all low output, probably sent in to some depot and replaced, these the junked ones.

@Alaskan, did you snatch that BW-Tek I found? Noticed it went quick after I posted it.

I also just snagged one of those other 473's. At best, I get a 473nm to tear down and try my hand at repairing, at worst I get a cheap spectro.

You could very well be right about that. I have been in contact with lazerman121 about these. He is anxious about getting the spectrometer out and working on one. I told him that since I have a working spectrometer it wouldn't be something i was interested in spending more money for. I do, however, have the alignment and calibration procedures for them. If you decide to get one......the seller says he has the software to run it and I know how to set it up. That's 75% of everything you will need to make a working spectrometer. I think it has a different cable connection and might need a new fiber optic cable, but since it has some...maybe not.

Could be something real simple for the low output 473s. Bad alignment/dead pump/dead TEC, all of those relatively easy fixes.

Just make sure you have glasses for 808nm (at the least) before you open it up while running. Probably wouldn't hurt to have glasses covering 946nm too, although that's far less of a hazard than the 808. Especially if you keep the plastic covers on the crystal assembly.

Seriously contemplating buying one of these myself... At the least, the heads make good platforms to build something else.

YEP, gotta grab myself a decent pair of IR goggles. I'm more interested in the spectro even with 1nm accuracy. The 473 is just a bonus.

i'm looking at the UPS ground 62 dollar shipping price tag and it's too high, but for what you get, I suppose all in all, still a great deal if I can get the spectrometer working. What range do you guys think it might be able to be used for?

Should be good for the visible range from 400nm to 700nm. There are a some baffles that need to be removed and the the spectrometer removed and a new cable will have to be purchased to get it to link with a computer. It will also need to be calibrated, but the software is supposed to be free and that is a good deal. When you look at prices for working spectrometers used, it is not a bad deal.

Yea, cheap little toys, but I thought a deal for someone with a lot of cats in the house :p

I am asking the seller if he can ship to me out here, not sure he can.

If these are the early version red lasers with all the extra caps like the ones that came out from around 1995 to 2000 they just might be nice to have..
3 button cells or not I came across some nice pretty hefty ones made in solid brass:undecided:
I could see some special custom modding on these..

Clicked wrong link in email. Resubbing.
@Alaskan, what are you going to do with 5 of those?
