Yes! Can't wait to try these babies out! Evidentally there are no gasses inside if you're removing the cans! So that's very good!

Not meaning to sound rude but how do you know that?

Every single blue diode that I have de-canned is dead.
I run my lasers a lot and 7875's as well as 44's last for over a year of regular use, my de-canned 07's, 08's and 06's died in months or weakened so much that I gave them the 36 volt send off.

I was hoping that greens might be like reds, but blues and air don't play well together in my experience, I do not have a spreadsheet study, but I can tell you I won't remove any more cans unless it's some new 500 dollar 50 watt diode that I popped the window on and want the last weeks use out of.

No offense taken R.C.! I only assumed there wasn't due to DTR selling them decanned, but just because they do not instantly LED doesn't mean that it doesn't considerably alter and shorten their lifespand. I hope we can find out soon before thousands of decanned modules are sold. :/

To be fair we overdrive our diodes and we don't have them in a temp controlled setup like projectors do, so we can't hope to get spec sheet hours to half brightness or whatever the factory rating is, also DTR did warn us right up front that he was concerned about a backfill gas and longevity with the can removed.

There is no warranty or promise of lifespan, it's always been on us as experimenters and limit pushers to accept that we won't get factory MTTF as we don't run at factory power or in a dust sealed enclosure and in the case of GBalls possibly without the backfill gas.

If we ran at factory limits, and those are max limits because the projector compensates for wear over the diodes lifetime by turning up the power, so the max rating that we exceed is beyond the normal projector current.

My point is the GBall diodes seem to wear out faster with the GBall/can removed, not while being stored, but while powered up, I have heard theory that contaminants in the air degrade the coating on the emitters front, but that's just 1 theory.

Anyway it's part of our repurposing these diodes to expect less than factory MTTF and removing the can I seriously believe accelerates wear significantly, but again this is just my observation, I do not have spread sheet numbers, but I know what I have seen.

I would recommend keeping the GBall on and finding a new lens to use after, my one concept that may not work is to de-can 1 diode and use it's lens to operate the 2nd diode with any backfill gas intact.

I don't see why not, just need a longer module if the testing pans out! :) :takeit:

Will put up a thread when I get a moment but they look to be about 100mW stronger than the NDG700 and 130mW less powerful than a NUGM01 @ 2.4A.

Can we please get a measure of the spot at 5 meters with the factory GBall lens intact ?
Was just going to ask the same.:)
These M02's are sure looking good budget wise. Dtr, nice score and thanks for the quick testing:beer:

They ( the GBall ) may not produce the exact same spot size block to block, but then again they might because that is a pretty darn efficient long focal length lens, it hangs with the G2 pretty close.

I'm just wanting a nice class 4 green for a Star Trek phaser build.
I'll probably set it at 1.8A as its running on 2 10440's. Now the fun of these phasers is the sound with short blasts so limited battery power isn't much of an issue.
Also if this Gball doe's what I think as far as focus, its a win win because the beam has to exit through a hollow tipped phaser nozzle. The nozzle comes of easy but using a G2 or any lens for that matter I have to keep the focus tight before putting it back on..

Yes the stock lens is right on the coat tails of the G2 output power wise.
1.8A gets you 1w
2.4A gets you 1.25w

I bet we can come up with a way to mount these diodes in a DTR holder, fill it with inert gas and seal it.

We will figure out something, my idea of de-canning 1 to fix another may work, and it could let us work with the beam at a very tight point.
That 7675 DTR posted sure looked good.
This NUGM02 is just as strong as the 700, hopefully these will drive down the price of the 700's with the can window.
I have been hoping for some bargain yet quality 1/2 watt 532's, these directs may bring us more affordable bigger 532's and I love 532's.
I have so many lasers, I think I want to build a beam cluster just for the fun of it, it would look cool if they were all aligned just so.

I believe Alaskan has. I don't think they are the 700s.
