I have one of the smaller ones that's 20W , Its two emitter sets , you can tell by the forward voltage as with 915 - 940nm diodes its around 1.9 - 2V per die and the total Vf of the diode I have is around 4V .

The one red listed is 10.6Vf typical so its going to be on a guess 6 dies at 10W each as the rated current is 12A .

I have some of the 12, 25 and 40w FAP coherents and they just use fibers as you know to carry the output of 19 emitters that are arranged into a bundle, Alaskan worked with one and found it very distance limited.

From the shape of this I was pretty sure it would use multiple emitters, I am looking for one with good beam quality, not to reach the moon, just across my yard.

I have seen some that use a Bragg grating and I would love to have a real fiber laser when prices come down, but for now a happy cost effective compromise would be enjoyable, something that gets all the emitters into a useful single fiber that could be focused at 25 meters.

------------------edit------------------

In time these will come down as they get smaller and stronger, they are already a lot stronger and stackable for industrial use and the cost per pierce and cut rate is less than plasma.

Yeah these are multiple emitters combined and launched into a single fibre , Forward voltage gives it away mostly

I did mess around with lenses before I found one that worked well enough to give a dot at around 25cm away .

I've never heard of a FAP that uses knife edging. They're too small.

Google says fiber diameter of this one is either 105 or 125 micron. I'm not sure how that compares to others, but doesn't seem that small at first glance. The two common methods I'm aware of are:

No, exactly, but the diode in the link was not a FAP diode. The FAP diode uses a bundle of fibers, one fiber for each emitter, as in your second image. ~100um is small for that much power. The FAP diodes are all 600um and 800um bundles of 19.

The first image may be accurate for the diode in the link. The knife edging setup does use similar optics too.

Here's an example.

Omnichrome HeCd head with only 30 hours on it:

Omnichrome Series 56 Laser Head Model 3056-15M Untested AS-IS for Parts/Repair

$20 with 0 bids, +$30 shipping (for the US).

It's listed as untested, but at that price it's a fairly inexpensive gamble. Maybe not the best option if you actually want a functioning HeCd, but if you just want the optics, or feel up to the challenge of repairing a broken HeCd (or possibly converting it to HeSe or something similar), then here you go.

Oh, and it ends in 6 hours.

already saw this a while ago. probably overpressure, but might still work. no optics to recover, they're sealed in the tube. and not convertable either. (though you can do that with a Liconix, but it's very difficult) If you have a supply and cables though it might be worth a look if you can pick it up locally. these break in shipping more often than not, and are not a fun hazmat to clean up when broken. Cd dust is not to be toyed with.

I've built metal vapor lasers, HeCd/HeSe if you wanna do it right, make making a HeNe or Ion laser look like child's play.

(though to be fair, the 3056 series are the UV heads so if it works, its a cheap source of UV 325nm just would need a power supply and cables, but that wouldn't be as cheap. but still would end up a bargain. if someone buys it then I'll happily help you troubleshoot it and get it set up.)

The Omni heads seem a little tougher than the Liconix/Kimmon heads - I had a 74 with similarly low hours which worked just fine. It was manufactured before I was even born, by a few months anyway! Shipped it from England to Scotland, no issue. Then I shipped it from Glasgow to Edinburgh when I sold it to Edinburgh Napier University, again no issues.

Don't the 56 heads come in 442 and 325? The 74s do, I had a UV head. I've probably still got a list of the complete model numbers and their corresponding power/wavelength somewhere. I should dig those out. I have a feeling I had the manual too...

Yes. And I'm sure it's over pressure. They leak a lot slower than liconix lasers, but they still do. Even mine, (new 2008) is still over some. I have the manual, as well as both versions of the power supply. The one you linked is a UV only head, multimode for 15mW+ when new.

The first two digits are the reflectors, the second two are the length/series.

3056 is a UV head, 56cm long/series 56 for example.

Mine is a 2056, which does both lines. The 4056 would be a blue one. M is for multimode. Never adjust the pots other than Vt if you like your laser working.

The supplies are often hard to fix as they're super complex.

I've found some more of these "Defiant penlight 2pk." at some of the Home Depot stores around my area, and probably elsewhere too. They seem to only be available, and on sale during the Christmas holiday period.

A few of us made some pretty nice little projects from these. I know Pman made a few, and I made one. -Here-
IMO, they make a nice clean looking build, and at less than $3 each, you can't beat the price!

Edit: Here's another nice "Defiant" project from Lifetime 17.

Sincerely investigate any of these three short quotes as new concepts and you've taken your first step into a larger world:

"I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness..." - Max Planck. "Everything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real" - Neils Bohr. "What we call physical things and events do not exist independently of subjective experience..." - Deepak Chopra.

Each of these three rabbit holes go deep, ending up in the same place.

Useless troll fighting.

If anyone is interested in combining or splitting colors in a not-so-efficient manner, I found some 2in x 2.5in x 2.5in cross dichroic cubes from an LCD projector here:

Cross Dichroic Prism Glass (x-cube) 2 x 2.5 x 2.5 LCD Projector GREAT CONDITION! | eBay

I plan on using them like this:

Funny, was just talking about those on another thread. Seeing that image everywhere too, originally saw it on the Reddit 2007scape sub...

FYI, these are apparently a pain to get aligned. Can't remember if I ever used mine with RGB ... been too long.
