And now just one is left . . . if you blink you very well may miss it :cryyy:

That ebay seller also has a lot of diodes for some "exotic" IR wavelengths like 830nm, 798nm or such if you're into wavelength collecting.

I just received my prism pairs. They are very nice! Beautiful blue-purple coating. Only one left in the auction!

I'd get it but I just don't do any lab type lasers, everything I do it handheld and I don't see that working in any host I can imagine.

Oh I've seen some "handhelds" that would fit those among other large optics. You do have to think beyond Aixiz lenses though... ;)

I actually have something in the works with cylindrical lenses and a 500mW mits diode in a regular sized handheld. I have yet to do a mits build because the ugly beam scares me off.

That is a great price on a Variac. Thanks, may have to bite. The only thing I'm slightly worried about is that I feel like it looks a little small for a 5A one. I wonder if it truly can handle that high of current. Either way though, great deal.

I never understood why they put just a volt meter on the front. The knob position offers and equally good approximation of voltage, why not put an ammeter in that space instead?

Damn.... if only that was 240V input I would grab that in a second!

love this thread- keep up the great finds- when system allows Madmac gets another +2 from me.
check these two out and be my guest --

Melles Griot HeNe Laser & Power Supply | eBay
Hmmm- is that a fiber optic coupler out front?
632.5 most likely- Cant make out much on the label.
good item for Dr Sam to chime in on..

they want $23.22 if it was being shipped to Texas- I am not bidding(or sniping) this one--GL and plz let us know what you got??

and these from the good folks at Sunnking-- My dealings with them has always gone well.
but .. no mirrors? and you need powersupplies and driver boards and mounting block..tuning them takes a PJ.. just to find out if they will still work- I pass.

Here's the thing with prism pairs versus cylindrical lenses:

- Cylindrical lenses are for focusing (collimating) a beam in only one axis.

- Prism pairs are for reducing the width of an axis of an already collimated beam (i.e. correcting aspect ratio).

The problem with those 638nm laser diodes is that each axis has a different divergence angle (7.5 vs 35 degree angles). So with a circular lens, one axis gets collimated, but the other still diverges. That's why you need to have separate collimation for each axis. Chances are, if you can collimate your beam, you won't have the exact optics to create a square beam--especially given the price of cylindrical optics. So now you can take the prism pair and correct one of the axises, or at least try and reduce the aspect ratio.

So here is what I'm going to do:

1) Use cylindrical lenses to collimate both axises; 2) use the prism pairs to reduce the beam diameter in one axis if there is a mismatch (this probably won't be perfect).
