tl;dr

Buy your diodes from DTR ;)

I've already purchased several thousand dollars of diodes ftom DTR, Probably close to a hundred of them now, always happy.

Did some quick searching and yes, this is indeed probably the twin beam diode.

Yea the G84 is the twin beam. Surprised no one has one yet.

Those twin beam diodes are a big disappointment to me. It's pain enough taming the ultra-wide bar of the regular high-powered 638nms, but having two separate beams kind of defeats the purpose of having a single diode can. Might as well just get those 3-diode hosts and put 3x 700mW Oclaros in there.

or three of these to make six beams :)

That would be your own little diode array gun! I do like these diodes, but I hope the lower in price (to around 50 bucks :D) and become a single beam. This double beam thing is cool and all, but far from practical.

I think they're really interesting. It's something we haven't seen before in an easily accessible package, and may make for some creative builds. If you view them through the mental lens of seeking the next red diode for a projector, or to replace existing diodes in systems where a single tight beam is important, then they're admittedly disappointing.

My diode had three emitters, not two (and I really like it).

Did you find any info on that? I asked a few sellers of the diode on ebay and they haven't heard of it. Are they all equal powers? It seems unlikely you would get some random "parasitic" third beam, but I suppose anything is possible. Did you by chance happen to get pics inside the can? I would be curious to see if it is two separate dies attached together, two dies fabricated ON one another, or what the case is.

oh also: projector pull?

edit edit (heard you like edits): Somehow I missed Podo's pics of the die, where you can clearly see the two emission points- maybe the tri beam really is a random fluke? I can see how mishaps would happen while fabricating dual emitter dies like that, it just seems like the mits QC would catch it.

Not a fluke. According to LaserLands, the diode they're selling is the three beam version.

It's a cool diode. I like it. No photos of the die, sorry.

Huh. Neat :) I wonder if they were pulled from a prototype block, something like nichia's.
Wish you would post some pics of your build RHD, triple 638 beam shots would be sweet :)

edit: apparently the tri beam model will start production in august :)

It's clearly in production now, because I have one, and laserlands is selling them on ebay ;)

Selling pulls though. Like I said, I think they just got a sample of a mits diode block.

BTW, the mits laser projectors are out now, and they have 34 blue diodes "of varying powers and wavelengths." They are three big ones though, so not really economic-none on ebay...yet :)

Mitsubishi has new laser projectors out?

Who are you quoting / citing that statement about varying wavelengths to?
