Daguin bought these, kept them for himself, and then sold these in 5 packs for $10 shipped.

I think they're okay, I've broken a couple myself (pins, cap, etc.)... but I have two lasers that work, and I think they're nice (still have 5 more diodes). They're not the most fun... just interesting since it's a different color (orangish yellow). It's cool since it's more of a He-Ne color than a typical red.

Ah, so these are the same diodes as Dave was selling. Well, here's another load if anybody wants it.

hey, just wanted to say, nice sig. I never really talked to u much, but I remember reading a couple of ur threads, and I remember when you first started out. Looks like you've gone a long way. The only thing i'd say is maybe you should invest in a few nice hosts. A cheap alternative you could do is to get a $3 "pocket mini" flashlight from DX, then use a washer for the heatsink (not the BEST.. but w/ a duty cycle, it's ok). The only hard part would be trying to fit a LM317 driver in there (if you don't want to go the expensive route - I'm cheap too), it's hard but can be done, and in the end you'll probably love it more than all your others, and will never use the others again.

Thanks! To be honest, I think I have come a pretty far way since I first joined the site (ex. I remember thinking that green laser pointers used green laser diodes… a common noob misconception haha). But yes, I probably should buy some nice hosts. I would use my 4171 host from Jayrob, but I currently do not have a functional driver small enough to fit inside.

[FONT=&quot]As for using the LM317 drivers, I have figured out a way to get them pretty compact. I have 3 functional, unused ones following that design. I have considered buying a couple of those new 100mW dildas for $20 apiece and just putting the diodes in there. For violet, I could use 2 CR2 batteries and for red I could use a battery of about the equivalent size of the CR2’s. But who knows what I’ll end up using.[/FONT]

DREW has them also, check out modwerx.com. ive got a couple and they are orange-ish color. you can sure tell they are not "red" 660nm. good if you just want a less common color. i would not recommend putting more than 30ma of power to them. they will blow.

it is the second beam from the right. don't know why, but for some reason my camera is picking up alot of ambient light from the lasers. it could be scatter from the fog i used to enhance the visibility of the beams. still it gives you an idea of the color.
i will take some more pix after i figure out some settings on my new camera

Yes, I ordered one from drew and was wondering if it was the same diode. I guess so! I can't wait to hook mine up to a driver to see the beautiful, off-red color. Nice beamshot(s) there!

lol, i might've sold one of mine for a lil cheaper, but Drew is a nice guy. He was always so generous to me so I wouldn't want to take away any business. Quite frankly I'm surprised that I haven't seen him around much lately. Anyway, I just thought I'd say that I've run mine at 47-48mA and they've been working fine for a while now. The specs say the Threshold current is 30mA (meaning, it'll start lasing at 30mA), but it's operating current is 40mA... plus I believe I read that it's maximum rated current was 50mA, so I've been running mine at 47mA (easy combo using an LM317 and resistors I have).

I don't want to say that you Should run it at >40mA (I don't want to be responsible for breaking it), but I know I've run two at 48mA for several months now, and I know some others have run at >58mA (I don't remember who).

Yea. I remembered Dave's 5 for $10 deal (even though it was over) and that almost stopped me but I decided that Drew deserved the money. He's a good seller. In fact, he's who I bought my first PHR diode from! Yeah, I thought I remembered Dave saying that they could be run higher. I plan to do around 45mA in it. Thanks for the info!

I bought 5 of them from daguin and they withstand 50mA perfectly. It's color is an orangeish-red
