Well its 10mm, not cm. But still thats pretty bad.
The laser does have adjustable focus.........
hah oh yea true

It's pretty sad, the video really is bad marketing cutting the trashbag that slowly. With a bit of focus it should chew all the way through even whilst moving at a steady pace if it was even close to 150 mW.

Perhaps the 50 mW with its $55 price tag might be worth ordering and reviewing, if it puts out anything close to 50 mW steadily. The body looks big enough to dissipate a fair amount of heat, if they actually got the thermal connection right for a change. But since it only has a momentary pushbutton it doesnst seem intended for continous use anyways. One improvement might be bypassing the switch and using the tailcap lockout instead ;)

I'm taking one for the team. A university nearby has the equipment to test laser output and I just bought the 100mW greenie.

Wish me luck!

I wish you luck!

And that it gets shipped in under two months. ;)

You and me both!

Have you ordered from KD before? My first laser from them took 1 month to ship. I now have three more ordered, and they keep saying next week. With KD it is best to order and forget. Then you are at least pleasantly surprised, when you suddenly get a laser you forgot you ordered.. ;)

If DX had the same lasers, i would order from there, but they don't have the CR2 models. They do have these tho.

Anyway, can't wait to hear about your measurements. Do you have a spectrometer at your university?

There is a university nearby that does. I go to University of St. Thomas, and our science department is about as advanced as our, well...all of our non-religious departments.

UPDATE:

My status is "Collecting from Supplier" even though the item is supposedly "In Stock."

That's good. In that case you'll be able to measure the ratio of green vs. IR. You could also do it on a normal power meter if you had an IR filter with known characteristics.

The only reason i'm even interested in the IR output here, is because the manufacturer actually advertises it. In most of these cheap lasers, there are no filters, but the IR leaking is low because of the way they are built, and the little that is left is extremely divergent.. You can actually exclude it from the measurement, simply by pointing the laser at the meter from a distance.

I would be surprised, if the IR was in the same narrow beam as the green. But i guess we'll see...

In a few months, that is... ;)

EDIT: I just did some testing with an IR filter from a CNI pen (x-series), and i don't think "No IR filter for max output" is meant to advertise the IR in the output. My 150mW green laser from CNI would go from 156mW to only 145mW if i put the filter in front of it. That's 11mW difference. And the laser is already filtered - i wanted to see how much a filter affects the green alone.

I think they don't put the IR filter in, so that the green would be more powerful. The IR is still going to be very divergent and won't really contribute to the measured power, if done from a certain distance.

It's always like that with new products from KD. They obviously list the one sample as "stock" so people would order, and then they just wait for enough orders to make a larger order from the manufacturer, without having to spend their own money.

Since DX carries the same focusable lasers now, you could cancel and order from there. Unfortunately, if you tell them you want to cancel, they'll say it's gonna ship next week and if you wouldn't rather wait. After a week, it's gonna be "one week" and so on.

Eventually, they just ship and don't even tell you.

I'm not expecting it to be very quick...
I just hope you will all remember when I make a new thread about it what was going on.

Anyways, I was originally going to buy the True 50mW from DX, but I truly despise PayPal after they screwed me on some other purchases in the past, and they were not allowing me to use my credit card even when I was not signing in. That is a completely different thing though.

Also, I checked DX, and I cannot find the same New Wish laser that we're talking about in the thread. They seem to only have 2 or 3 models like the one I'm getting from KD, and none of them are close to 100mW.
Honestly, I'm expecting about 75-80mw of Green and the rest to be IR. I know that's pretty awful, but there are no reviews and they're so cheap that I can't see any way around it.

Is there any place I can buy Cheap IR goggles so I can test this thing safely?

When you make a review in a new thread, let us know..

And what payment option does KD offer, that you don't need to use PayPal?

If you're talking about the "Genuine New Wish" CR2 lasers, then no, DX doesn't have them yet.

But this thread is about the big focusable units, that KD has in 50mW v1, 50mW v2, 100mW and 150mW. DX has the same lasers but also a 200mW model.

The CR2 New Wish is discussed in another thread, if that is what you meant: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1208553139

Is that what you ordered? I ordered a 200mW and two 50mW almost the same day they listed them. Still waiting. :) Will meter them and report once i get them. I'll also do an IR leaking measurement.

Again, if you are talking about the CR2 models, you do not really need to be concerned about IR. They will use a 0.5W pump, and the little remaining IR will be very divergent. This is due to the way they are built. And my "200"mW New Wish pen lasers supply up to 150mW of green. But they drop due to heat. The CR2 models have much more massive bodies, so the heat will dissipate, and the crystals will not lose the efficiency so fast.

You can actually expect to get >100mW out of them. Maybe even >150. The good DX New Wish pens can put out 240mW when cooled down. Of course the power will vary a lot between individual ones. (EDIT: Unless you ordered the 100mW model. In that case, your expectations may be correct. I was assuming you ordered the 200mW.)

In any case, you should be more worried about getting the green beam or reflection in your eye.

The big focusable units are probably going to use lower efficiency crystals (more stable hopefully) and a higher power pump. There, the IR leaking could be of a concern.

I agree with most of what FC said, but the output from Milos' review is about right, in short spurts with an external IR filter, at the price, Milos was happy with the 150 mW!  ATB!  -Glenn

You can read the Milos review on LE forum!
