Hi Laserbee,

I am not sure if they already have started to sell this glue or plan to allow to a distributor to sell under his brand but I can ask them to send you a "commercial sample" if you provide the address.

BTW could you calibrate a not very precise DIY LPM in 10-20 or better 10-50W range?

That would depend on the LPM, it's Sensor Head and
it's electronics..
You can PM me and I'll get you our address for the
sample. Thanks.

That's because you can't see UV. (duh)

I'm aware of no light sources (besides some lasers or LEDs) that produce monochromatic UV. The easiest method is use mercury discharge and throw away the longer wavelengths. Making the pass filter narrow is expensive and improves little. Arguably, keeping in the blue light makes it safer as it acts as an ON indicator. Mercury has lines at 436, 405, and 365. if a filter was selected to keep only these three, the 436 would easily mask the others. I suspect that is what's going on here.

I got my spectrometer today -- FAST shipping.
I plugged it into two computers and the systems
only recognized the camera. NO software.
I was told that I need to download the software from
their website -- What a mess -- I can occasionally
get a display but no calibration instructions or anything
else.

I'd PM Sta as he has one of these and got it running. Bummer. There's nothing like good old fashioned tech support.

-Mike, yeah, I don't know. My spectrometer is an Ocean Optics USB2000 and they have excellent technical assistance. I actually had to get another laptop that runs Windows 7, as that was the last platform this spectrometer supported. I'd have never known it if not for Norm Hoffer, one of their engineers. It cost a lot, but it works great.

I got my mini Spectrometer! It's a bit of a trick to get it going BUT how do I calibrate it?

This is what I read in nM:

Input beam - Normal display - Flip

405 ------------ 980 ----------- 490
445 ------------ 903 ----------- 565
532 ------------ 745 ----------- 720
650 ------------ 495 ----------- 973

All in nM. Looks strange to me.

Mike, when setting up my spectrometer you read the wavelength in nm and it is assigned a pixel number. You do this for at least eight lines and run a third order statistical regression to solve for I, CX, CX^2, and CX^3. you also solve for R and R^2 and enter these into the EEPROM. This sets the way in which the spectrometer reads the various wavelengths. On this one, I have no idea. it has a small camera which serves as the CCD in mine. I would think that it must use something similar as the output from the diffraction grating is not linear.

Waw! this seems a real killer deal!

I have read a negative post but there are some good and positiv posts here about this spectrometer.
Also, on eBay page, I can see all positive posts for this

I am going to buy two of them, we need them for our lab work in my lycée. I will be back to you after testing them and looking how our student can use them.
They may be valuable items.
I am paying today and I will see when i will get them.
I had a look on their website, the guy told me that I can pay directly via paypal without passing by eBay, any one tried this?
back to you soon on this issue

You can pay directly by PayPal but the seller will
be pocketing the normal eBay fees. He should give
that total eBay price reduction to you...

Paying directly still gives you the PayPal assurance
of delivery.

Dear Laserbee,
I have exchanged with the guy of eBay, and he agrees for a transaction via epaypal with a reduced price, i told him that this for educational use.
he is going to send me two of them with some esthetics scratches.
hope to get them soon
I will keep you updated

I hope this will work for your purposes as it is NOT a professional spectrometer and has a resolution at best of 3 nm. I can't remember what the accuracy is, but it isn't up to the specs of a professional unit. I also suspect this unit will drift a lot just during use, with temperature and other circumstances. It uses a small ubiquitous camera as a detector, so I really do hope it works out for your purposes.

At $70.00 each even if it doesn't do the job for Civitus
it's not a big loss.. Besides someone here will probably
take them off his hands....

Dear Paul,
Yes, it is exactly what we need, not a professional or research grade spectrometer, just as it is mentionned, education and demonstration. we have to teach our student how to aquire, and callibrate a spectrum.
Do experiments about absorptions and emissions. and they will have to determine the accuracy and the resolution.
It is just perfect for our need.

I have talked to the guy yesterday, and he will ship two units with some minor esthetic scratches today.
I will tell you what I will get.
He gave me also a nice discount.
ciao
