Strack & Van Til has 4packs of Energizer lithium ultimates for $4.99. The packs are retail blister packs, but the face of the pack has a clear label over it. I'm not sure what the deal is, but they are all the same way (quite a few packs). Dates I saw were all 2024. I was tempted to buy some, but I already have a few packs. It's a great price though, almost half of what they normally go for retail.

Yeah they are usually 8.99 for a pack of 4. I just bought some from target. I have tested all the different energizer brands out and have found this:
At retail price the best value are the alkaline batteries. The worst value are the ultimate litium. Another interesting result of my testing was that the energizer advanced lithium and ultimate lithium are almost identical despite the $3 price difference.
In a test using a 2 AA battery device, the device lasted for 7.5 hrs with alkaline, 12.5hrs with advanced lithium, and 13 hrs with ultimate lithium.
The price per minute was the lowest with the alkaline.

With this discounted price though the ultimate would be a for sure winner.

There are additional benefits, such as higher loaded voltage (for things that beneift from more voltage). Better operation in extreme temperatures. Longer shelf life.

But your findings of Ultimates and Advanced being almost the same are extremely interesting!

Very true, The intial voltage on the alkalines was 1.57 and the initial voltage on the lithiums was 1.75. The high voltage is a huge plus for some devices. I am unaware of any temperature limitations from using standard alkaline. The big difference that was easily noticable to me was the weight of the batteries. The lithiums were much lighter than the alkalines. As far as electric toothbrushes, portable CD players, and flashlights go it is more conomical to use alkalines. If it were a laser I would use lithiums (although I would probably use a rechargeable 18500 with a battery spacer)
