I also got myself a pair of the 7.99 ones. I tested on a ledshoppe 50mW, I can't see any green at all coming through, so I would assume they are safe. When using a camera I could see a faint dot of IR that passed though. I'm going to test them with bluray soon too.

It should be fine since I know the goggles hold up quite a while, but for future testing, you may want to shine it on the sides. since that is a spot of less importance for messing up the goggles.

People's psychology is interesting thing. Post the same goggles on o-like for $25 and they trust the higher price. Post them on focalprice for $8 and it'll turn them away even if the goggles are made at the same factory. When information is scarce it's natural to make deductions based on everly little bit of info available and when the website says nothing technically concrete you have to link the price to quality. In marketing, you have to be careful with unusual pricing, be it too high or too low, without a damn good substatiation.

Also these hobbyist glasses are "alignment goggles", they're meant to allow you to observe the spot in comfort, they're not meant to sustain a direct hit except as a last-ditch defense - again irrespective of whether they're certified or not. In fact, even then I wouldn't worry except if the laser is focused from short distance onto the goggles, in that case they may after a while burn a hole through the glasses. After all, you don't worry hitting a piece of paper with an unfocused beam, and this plastic is more resilient than paper.

Eyes are in great danger from laser beams because they FOCUS the beam. Without focusing, a beam needs to be in the hundreds of mW range before it's more than bright light to most common materials.

I totally agree. I believe that unlike UV transparency of plastics, where a lot depends on the properties of the polymer chains of the material used, which is not obvious to the eye, there is nothing obscure with visible light filters: if you see for yourself that the plastic is red, you may be sure that it will block the green. But.......... when it comes to my eyesight, I am willing to be superstitious and pay more for goggles coming from a reputable source. I'm sure the vendors exploit these superstitions, which are fears for lack of precise rational knowledge. Focalprice does a VERY BAD job of advertising their piece of SAFETY equipment.

I totally agree with you, also with this:

"and finally: laser protective googles are nothing like "sun-watching googles" made to stare into the sun at an eclipse. they are there to block the 0.5s of accidental laserexposure."

Many people seem to have many money >.>

I bought these also, and am satisfied with performance for my green 100mw laser.

Blu-Ray will be tested as soon as I finish my next 6X.

They seem to attenuate most colors below Red, and are actually interesting to wear.

Recieved the 8$ goggles today, and they block all the green light from my 95mW. All I can see is a dim, yellow fluorescence dot.

I used them on a past event where I was laser jockey with 2x 3watt green
I used them when I was outlining the lasers and stabilising the mirrors (I manage to get the beam in my eye EVERY time..) with these glasses everything was fine,, no black spot for an hour (what I usually have when I get an accidental sweep of the -blanked, high speed camebridge scanner set- laser)

I did a little review with the 7.99 focalprice goggles and the OEM certified's. It's not a perfect test, but I hope it helps a little:
